Hi all,

I recently bought a th200-4r that i plan to put in my 69 camaro and I cant find anything on this tag. It has a "CY" in pink letters. The valve body itself has "CY1" in yellow letters. I was told it came off a 1985 9c1 caprice police special. The vin tag reads:

"CY-8505-02-85" or "CY-8905-02-85" the second # is double stamped so its either a 9 or a 5. Please help! Any info would be appreciated. is it a good trans/valve body?

I'm not a 100% sure but I think it was once behind a 4.3L V6 Chev. There are better ones out there but I'm sure our trans pros on here can offer suggestions to make it live.

What size engine amd how much hp is this going behind?

I have a 400 chev sm block. I got the usual cam/intake/headers/ etc set up. approx 10 something compression. Im planning on getting beefed up parts for it. Some trans shop is charging me about 1,700 bucks to have it " race built". Can this valve body be made to perform like those out of a GN?

By the way, thanks a lot for the help. very much appreciated.

Yea i thought the way the tag code is written is a little strange too when compared to the general format. So have you heard of "CY" coded trannies coming out of 9c1's?

thanks for the help!!

Saw this posted in a Wiki article (It is believed that an HD version of the 200-4R was used in the late 80s Caprice 9C1 police package using the internals from the Buick Grand National). Not sure if it's true but, I would think the 9C1 would have a beefed up version of the 2004R. I don't know what Code the 9C1's came with. Some other site that deals with them may know or one of the Pro Trans Builders.

Yes, the CY's Vbody & Governor can be calibrated to perform how you want it to.
I would check with CK Performance, Extreme Automatics, Turbo Buick Performance etc.. before you spend the $$$$ on the rebuild. Check with your Builder to see what upgraded Internal parts are going to be used.

Basic differences between the GN & other 2004r's is the Vbody calibration, Governor, Pump = (TV/ThrottleValve boost valve, Low/Reverse boost valve, Pr. Reg. valve) & Intermediate/2nd Servo size.
