I am replacing the rubber weatherstrip that is at the base of the windows on the outside of the car. The driver side one has begun to crack and I don't want water rolling down in there.

I have the parts and I know I have to take the door panels off. I need to know if I have to remove the window itself to get at the screws that hold the part in.

Any info is appreciated.

Window sweeep info

I installed only the one on the drivers side and its not completely installed as I left out the screws that are blocked by the window. U will have to remove the glass unless u can get an angled screw driver to put the middle screws in. My buddy took the old one out and he used that 90 degree little screw driver but I think putting it back in would be too tough. U can put just the 2 screws in like I did but that is really half assin it.

Thanks for the info.

I was entertaining that thought as well. I really don't feel like pulling the glass.

Pulling the glass is not as hard as it seems. All you need is a 10mm socket and small extension. Remove the two top window guides on the top of the door. There are 3 or four nuts at the bottom of the window that the window is attached to the metal rail. There is also a plastic piece at the bottom right edge that needs to be removed. then you just slide and manuver the window out from the top. Replace the weather strip....and repeat in reverse order. I had done the whole job, from start to finish in 22 minutes on one door ( I actually timed myself ) Looks harder than it really is. PM me if you need more details. Good luck !

I did mine, and did NOT pull the glass. I did loosen the stops that keep the glass from going all the way down, and I had little ratchet screwdriver, like the one recommended by Kirban's door/window guru.

Do it without removing the glass. It'll save you from extra work IMO. Re-aligning the window is tedious work but not hard. All the screws for the outer belt can be accessed with the window in the full down position. You may have to redrill 1 or 2 holes depending on the manufacturer of the replacement belt, so be prepared.

I had found that the extra 5 minutes of time needed to remove the window was well worth effort. Besides.....I was able to totally clean the window, and lubricate the windows metal tracks. Realigning the window is no biggy and you might find that after installing the new sweeps, you have to realign them anyway. I did have to drill a new hole on the drivers side door also. The passenger side matched up perfectly. The job was just much easier for me to pull the window....not a hard project at all. To each his own.

I didn't pull the window, just used an angled screwdriver, they're quite handy. Took about 15 minutes for both sides. Good luck, its an easy task
