I know you all have been over this a million times, but I am new to all of this. I am starting a frame-off on my 87 GN. It is bone stock except for a k&n cone. I am fine with the performance. ( I wouldn't mind a little more if it is safe) What I am looking for is reliability and driveability. It is a 60K mile car. I am going to check out the engine while it is out. It runs and drives great as is. If everything is as it should be, I want to freshen up with a new turbo (I don't mind stock) and a good choice of injectors/chip. As I said, I am interested in smooth reliability. I have the typical up and down cold idle, etc. I am older now and prefer good suspension and brakes over the neck snapping power. I already have a full out drag car I hardly ever take out anyway!

Well some simple mods that are fairly cheap is alky injection. One of the better mods is going with a fairly small roller cam but they're pricey. A new chip will give you better control of the system. I'm sure someone will jump in here and add some more ideas for you.

Grab this months gm high tech performance they are doing a buildup with a 106,000 mile gn and starting with stock doing "safe" mods to it dynoing it and taking it to the track im interested cause my care is the same as yours k&n and nothing else but more miles,so far they have done a turbo tweak chip, valve springs, hotwire kit, fuelpump, plugwires, and a k&n,and they have gotten 80 hp and 110 ftlbs more to the wheels,no after modification strip numbers yet tho ..

I'll pick it up. Durability and reliability is what I am shooting for. Thanks

If you want a reliable car, leave it stock. It seems sometimes when you try to mod these cars they dont like it very well and leave you stranded. Invest in Triple A
