i have a 87 grand national and am going to switch to a 160 degree thermostat, but was told that i have to replace the stock chip first, so far i have msd ignition wires, flowmaster exhaust, k&n air filter as mods, if anyone could give me the name of a good place to get a chip from and what to look for it would be greatly apprecaited, thanks

If you want the ultimate in tuning, and don't want to destroy O2 sensors with race fuel, grab a maxxeffort 8 or 16 position chip. do a search. there is a TON of threads on this subject.

I suggest trying a Thrasher. They are great for near-stock cars and for daily drivers, IMO. Besides, you don't have much to lose at $25 a pop.

Thrasher all the way.....do not mess with anything else until you know what you are doing........

(and a Thrasher needs a new fuel pump and a 237 regulator at a minimum)

i would like to get my car around the 400hp area someday, so does that matter in a decision in picking a chip, were can i get a thrasher at

Lots of good choices:
MaxEffort (my personal choice)
PTE
Thrasher
Red Armstrong
Jim Testa
and a few more I can't think of right now...

I would stay away from the mass marketed chips (hypertech). They aren't bad but, "generic"

Get one from a Turbo Regal specialist

good question....think Scott Simpson? Scott231 on this board

(for Thrasher chips)

lots of info on the internet...use Google

(the chip will be the cheapest thing you buy for your 400 hp car!)

many good chips out there red armstrong is great a buddy just bought a testa chip and loves it so i will be ordering one this week myself personally i would stay away from hypertech chips but thats just me good luck
