Hey painters I need some help. I am almost finished with mt t-top repairs and I need to get some primer and paint. The car was painted with deltron base /clear about 4 years ago. I had to strip the roof down to the metal because of the melted paint and it had some crows feet going on. I know I need a self etching primer or epoxy primer to go down on the bare metal. Carquest paint store has what is called "wash primer". They say that it is self etching. I was so confused at all the stuff in the store I didnt buy anything. Can anyone help me out with the specific products I will need to get some paint back on this car. Primers, sealers, reducers catalysts and so forth. I've done some spraying before and it turned out good, I just dont know how to mix what!! Thanks in advance. Jeremy.

Use an acid etch. The wash primer was probably 1791, it is what I would recommend. Put a good primer over that like K36 or 3057. With PPG black base, it is recommended to put down a sealer over the primer or use DBC500. I would just get a quart (pint if they sell it) of DBC500.
3057 primer uses 3030 activater and DT reducers
K36 uses k201 and dt reducers
1791 uses 1792 catalyst
DBC base uses DT reducers
DBC500 is 1:1 with DT reducers
If you use a real sealer, use 3027 with 3030 and DT reducers
I would get DT870 and 885 reducers.

Wow, thats some awesome info there. I will have to print this out and bring it to the paint store with me:biggrin: Thanks for the info. I will let you know what I end up with. After I use the etching primer do I have a certain time frame that I have to apply the next layer of material? Any other tips and info would be great. Thanks again, Jeremy
