Need help w/200r4

I am wrapping up an engine swap and I came across a 200r4. I did a little research on these and found they are excellent trannies for my application. I have had some experience with the th350 and 400 and made the mistake of thinking the TV cable was a kickdown.
In my research I found that it is very important to have the TV cable adjusted correctly. I didn't have it hooked up at all on my test drive. I found I only had reverse and first gear when in drive for movement. Would the TV cable being disconnected altogether cause the trans to hang in 1st or do I have bigger problems?

Yeah, no line pressure. Hook it up and adjust IAW factory procedure.
