Hi All:

So, I start the car this afternoon and I hear this strange flapping sound coming from underneath the i/c fan. Poke my head down there and find that the loom that encases the positive batt cable has pulled away from that bracket that runs just underneath the crank pulley (the plastic holder with two bolts on either side, one of the bolts being attached to the i/c bracket on the pass side) and the fan clipped the loom, shredding it. I have no idea how it missed the batt cable inside, just that luckily it did and I've been spared replacing it. But the plastic bracket is broken. How this happened, I have no idea as I've put about 50 miles on the car in the past two months.

Anyway, now the pos batt cable is kinda hanging there half in and half out of this plastic bracket. How does the pos batt cable route down to this braket? Does it just run behind the pulley and then down to the bracket? A pic would be very helpful if anybody has the inclination.

TIA

I noticed my IC was kinda loose awhile back. I got the car up on ramps and I got some engine cleaner on the mess so I could see what was happening.

The bolt that holds the IC bracket, also hold the plastic loom. The bolt goes into the block and come loose. The plastic loom slides on this bolt and then the IC bracket and then the bolt.

The cable comes off the back of the battery to the frame then towards the back of the car under the turbo and then over to the wire loom.

Well, I figured out what happened.

I installed a polished aluminum alternator shield from DC Tech today (NICE piece, by the way).

Anyway, I must have pulled the positive cable a bit when I was rooting around in the back of the alternator, and I pulled it just enough to pop it out of the bracket so it would just graze the I/C fan. Wire's fine, but the plastic sheathing is all screwed up.

Anyway, there's a good illustration of the cable routing in one of Kirban's books.

Thanks for the help.
Rich
