Need help with Steering Column

Just got an 87 GN thats been sitting for 10 years in a mans driveway,(75k original for next to nothing). The man was a big ole' dude of at least 350lbs, so over the years he constantly used the steering wheel as a cruch to get in and out of the car, subsequently the column is terribly loose at the joint where the tilt goes up and down. Everything works just fine including the tilt, it's just very loose and shaky from the wheel to the tilt joint. I took the wheel off to have a look, but I admit I don't know what I'm doing....what do i need to do....any help on this annoying issue would be a big help...Glenn
