Well, as the saying goes, when it rains it pours. I was planning on doing heads, intake and cam this season, but my torque convertor problem resurfaced for the 3rd time. ( Pat's in PA, i'll never use them again, but that's a story for another time.) I was on my way home from my trans guy today and gave her a little stomp. i get to the red light, and clouds of smoke come billowing in from behind! Yup, there went the turbo! I spoke to Justin at Precision. He's recomending a Billet 67/65 ball bearing turbo for what I have in mind. The price he qouted is $2100. Wondering if anyone is using one of these, what fuel pump/injector/engine management system to use, and how the price sounds. Some quick suggestions would be appreciated.

My advice to you is to use a properly descriptive title for your thread like What supporting mods for a 67/65 BB Turbo.

So what happened at Pat's? I have been beating hard on my Pat's converter for 10 years.

Actually the question was more about the price of the turbo. As far as Pat's, i beat on the original hard for 4 years with no problem. i had it restalled about 1 1/2 years ago after i upgraded the turbo and this is the third time since then that it has come apart. it keeps smoking the lock up clutch, and of course taking the trans out with it every time. i beat the balls off of it for 4 years before that...100's of sceond gear lock up passes with it.nothing but problems with it since.....this time it's only been 5 mos., and 3 of them the car sat in the garage, and only to the track once!

How fast are you trying to go? What is your budget?

That turbo sounds Expensive to me. Lots of Good Deals out there. Try GBody parts & see the list they have on sale. As Razor said, what are your Goals??

Sounds like the upgraded turbo is too much for the clutch - I must admit that the few times I tried to lock mine up, I felt nothing at WOT - forced part throttle worked so I know the switch worked...

i might agree with you if i got more than 1 or 2 passes out of it! it's not like i dropped a second off of my et by changing the turbo. like i said, i only started having problems after the restall. as a matter of fact, i put at least 20 passes on the original convertor with the new turbo. the only reason i had it restalled is because i went to the bigger exhaust housing when i had the turbo freshened up, and lag on the street was becoming an issue. my trans guy seems to think there's a pressure loss in the convertor, in the clutch apply circuit, possibly a hairline crack thats being overlooked. everything in the trans has been checked ten times over.

looks like i'll be going with a 66/65 bb from cotton's. i spoke to jack today and was very happy with the vibe i got from him and his willingness to listen to and answer all of my questions. he even went as far as to steer me to another vendor for one of the items i need. that to me is a very honest salesperson.
