85 3.8 turbo..30 over trws
107 t cam and valvesprings
30# inj...adj reg...homemade 3" cold air and 14 kn...stock turbo
87 coilpack conversion new wires and cr43ts at 35
okay so been running the stock chip for a while and dialing in the car the best i can..got to run pretty strong:D with about 15# boost..38# line off basically no knock or very little knock if any o2 ok lil rich in the high eights..low nines..i think i have a quirky inj..i will work on that as i go along but my throttle response is still good with the tps and iac i had it set to..40..481wot..iac was 25-27 so
i had pte burn me a chip..put in today and boost sky rocketed to near 20 and knocked near 10 degrees..adjust the rod back to the point where it just holds the wg tight and boost is still upwards of 15-16 and knock was as most 4degress i uped the fp to 40 which i didnt really want to do..it helped but i dont think it needs so much fp due to the fact it created a slight tipin stumble which i pulled my hair out to:eek: try and fix so with that i cant turn boost down anymore and it seems to spool up much better now i need some suggestions before i send the chip back:mad: which is probably what youll say... so any suggestions..or other info needed let me know ...sorry so long...and thanks vinny

Vinny,

To go fast in these Hot-Airs you need to do better than pump gas. I tired many chips with 94 octane, and still they all produced knock. I finally got tired of fooling around..got a chip burnt by Jim Testa, and I just run 100 octane or better at all times. Using race gas or alcohol is the only way (other than intercooling) to get the Hot-Air's to run 15 or more PSI of boost.

Dump some 110 or 112 in the tank, and let me know if you knock/boost numbers change. Doing this will rule out octane (or the lack of) being a problem.

I know you hate to turn up the FP, but you ought to check and see what is recommended for the chip first. Im willing to bet 43 psi static is what Joe Lubrandt (PTE) had in mind when he burned it. Maybe as low as 40 and as high as 45. Give him a call I know he will help you to figure things out.

what timing did he put in the chip?

what are your o2 #'s?

hey whats up....i have to send this chip back...the detonation is to severe...audible...i even cranked up the fp to 43 and still to much knock....not sure on what he set the chip up with but im going to call in the morning and see what we can do...i will keep you posted...also wish i knew where to get some high octane fuel here in brooklyn...later vinny
