No LOCAL law perhaps, might want to check with federal law as in FCC to transmit such a signal though.... Best thing is to just wait at the red lights and don't even go near one of those gizmos. Asking for big-time trouble, and for what?...saving a few minutes at most.

hmm, I wonder if that little device would also interfere with laser speed guns the cops use??? since both use infrared wavelength light. Maybe another reason to highly guard its sales.

Very interesting story..

I have to agree with TT/A on this one. There is a bit too much risk. Radar detectors are one thing. That's a cat and mouse game, but this is serious business. Just reading that article, I could think of several ways that this 'scheme' could easily be made to backfire on the user. Quick example: There are only a BILLION of those damn red light cameras. I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to set them up to take a picture of traffic for every time this MIRT is activated. Sure they would get plenty of pics of police and ambulances, but 11pm at night, it would probably just nab one person.

I just get the feeling that even though we think this is a dream... it really seems like a nightmare and just a bad idea.

I remember reading in a magazine several years ago that they were trying something like this to defeat laser. I think they tried several jammers and detectors with marginal to poor results. Then they took a simple 8" off-road light. Put an infared lense from a amry surplus store and lit it up! They said in most cases they got almost all the way to the police car before the laser gun could get a reading. Sometimes blowing clear past with never getting a reading.

<evil grin> Boy the GN would look stupid with Baja lamps on the bumper. But it sure would eliminate one problem. :D

The one we have on our firetruck is a oddly patterned strobe... its the coded one that tells who tripped the light. I didnt notice a IR mount of any sort.

Anyway People can buy em now, but very soon there will be legeslation blocking them and those people will be getting busted hardcore..

They were talking about these things in Michigan on Monday and I heard that they already passed a law in MI to outlaw these and make them illegal by Wednesday.

Take your $$$ and make your car faster.:D
