Been baby footing the new GN around for a couple of weeks. The car detonates slightly under full throttle so I NEVER stomp on it. It runs decent under half throttle makes and makes around 18lbs of boost. From what I can tell the car has had some after market mod's and one of the previous owners had put most of the stock stuff back on it. It still has an accufab f/p reg, 3'' rusty ass downpipe welded to a testpipe going into a pretty decent stainless exhaust. It has a chip in the center console, but without knowing what it is I am not installing it. There is a slight exhaust leak at the Downpipe where it connects to the factory turbo. I am not sure the wastegate is fully functioning as the actuator arm is extremely difficult to move. I need to figure out where to start in order to get it running decent so I can upgrade stuff. I know the exhaust leak is first but can I just get an upgraded turbo/actuator/boost controller and new downpipe so I dont have to wrestle around wit the big ugly rusty one? Also I believe the fuel pump died, the car shut off and is getting no fuel pressure. I connected the grey f/p diag to the 12v alternator stud and still got nothing. I just purchased a racetronix 340 and hotwire kit to install. Any thoughts, sorry for the long wind. I am new to
GN's and don't want a hand grenade driving down the road.

Nothing on the bottom of that chip other than factory markings. What does the top look like?

I think its just a stocker. I really want to get this thing going. If I am going to dump money into it, I would rather upgrade rather than replace with stock parts. I am thinking turbo/downpipe, intake/MAF, then take a chip.

I would hate to replace stuff twice. I know it has to be a tuning issue, I just have to locate someone in the metro Detroit area that is familiar with these cars and is not an arrogant bastard LOL.

Dude I think that chip is not for a turbo TR. Where you at? Maybe someone can let you borrow a chip or a complete ECM.

18 psi on just pump gas, may be your problem, you might need to put more info up about the engine, list everything that you know that was done to the engine

This is the stock chip (CMW) for an '86 Buick with the LC2 turbo SFI 3.8l engine. Released in late '85 for the '86 MY.

That is the pickle I am in. The guy I bought it from was a middle man. He had no clue what was done to it. I got a good deal on the car, so I scooped it up. I see where there has been at the very least some bolt on's done. I am running a 70/30 mix of 110 and 93 and the detonation is better. Without actually breaking into the motor I cannot determine if it had work done. With the turbo cars I know I have to be careful. I just need a good starting point. I would really like to pull it apart and put a new intake ls1 maf turbo/downpipe and chip so I will know what is done.

Yup. Get that fuel pump and hotwire in, identify your injectors. Get your turbo and downpipe. Then get a chip to natch that combo with a power logger and scan master.

Do you have power logger?
Start by turning the boost down until you don't see knock

Racetronix 340 and hotwire kit in the car and it runs way better. No audible detonation and its a nice smooth ride, breaking tires loose when the turbo fully spools at 18lbs. The car is running a little rich still and the f/p reads 50lbs at idle.

If you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, try turning it down to 37 at idle

You may not be able to lower it enough with that pump. It should be 43-45psi no vacuum at idle with a tt or Bailey chip.

That's really only for a stock chip and you shouldn't be running that either.
