Hi guys.....just got my Adjustable FP Reg. today and I've got a few questions. 1. Should I zip tie my vacuum line to the regulator?(my car is pretty much stock, no more than 17psi boost if that matters.) 2. On my new AFPR there is a connection that I'm guessing goes to the fuel rail(the one with the small brown o-ring on it). How does this attatch to the rail? It's not a threaded opening, is it just a press-fit or something? and 3. The install looks pretty simple. What complications should I look for, and how did you guys overcome them? Any tips on the install would be very helpful. I'm going to install it tom. morning. I just got done putting on a rail mount FP gauge, and I was shocked how easy it was(things always seem to go bad for me!). Thanks in advance for the tips, guys, and I hope all of you have a happy Thanksgiving!!:D

This is really an easy installation. Shouldn't take more than 15 min. The FPR is held in place by two bolts (I think 10mm). First relieve the pressure or make sure it has leaked down, then remove the fuel line, vacuum line then the mounting bolts. It should slide right off. Make sure the old O ring comes off with the regulator. To re-install just reverse the procedure remembering to not force anything and not to tighten those two mounting bolts until after you have the fuel line attached to make sure you don't cross thread the fitting. I wouldn't zip tie the vacuum line as you will remove this to adjust the fuel pressure. Good luck.

Work on the engine when cold if possible. Make sure to depressurize the rail first by either running the car and unplugging the fuel pump connector back by the tank while running until it stalls or at drain it at the rail itself. Have rags and a fire extinguisher handy. You never know.

Yes, zip tie the hose. You don't want it coming off.

The press fit nipple you spoke of goes into the fual rail opening. Be sure to lube the o-ring with vasoline or white lithium grease so it goes in easily. You will need a wrench for the line going to the bottom of the reg and a 10mm socket for the reg to rail bolts.

It's pretty easy actually.

Set to 42-45# to start with the vacuum line off and plugged and car running.

Hope this helps.

Sweet....thanks for the advice guys. It just looked TOO easy! I guess it is afterall. We'll find out tom.!;) I did a rail mount fuel pressure gauge this afternoon, and had to bleed the pressure off the rail when I did that, so I know what to expect there. Thanks again!

Caution.....

The install is VERY easy, but be sure to have extra o-rings or you'll be singin' the blues. Well, maybe not if you're lucky.

The "Big" o-ring that goes into the fuel rail is easy to get. It's the same size as the one for your fuel injectors. There is another very small (maybe 1/4", but probably metric) on the return line on the bottom. This is the one that was buggered up when I took my stock regulator off.

A regular rubber/viton o-ring will not work with the high pressure fuel system. Although you WILL find the correct SIZE in rubber. You'll need the orangish-tan colored o-rings. Which I found out on a Saturday are very hard to find.

Luckily I know a mechanic who was allowed to cruise to the back of the parts store (O'Reilly's) and rumage through there fuel injection rebuild kits until he found a kit that had the right size. We opened up the kit and they let us take the "magic" o-ring....

If it were me....and I've been there done that....I would go to the GM dealer and get an extra set of o-rings. One big one and one little one.

Good Luck,
John

O.K......10 min. install! No O-ring headaches, very straight forward, simple process. Thanks for all the support, guys!:D

USE A LINE WRENCH!!! to take off the fuel line that is, you don't want to round off the top of it.
