I just got my car back this weekend with the rebuilt motor. Basic rebuild, but with a new 206/206 cam. The car has a TA49 turbo, 2.75" BGC downpipe, test pipe, and Hooker 2.5" exhaust with Aerochamber mufflers. I put the Hooker exhaust on a few months ago (before rebuild) and the car was sounding good...not very loud, but had an authoritative sound when you got on it. Now, after the rebuild, the exhaust is real loud. Even my girlfriend was saying "WTF...why is this so loud?" I checked the exhaust system and all is tight.

My question: Would the new 206/206 cam make a big difference in exhaust sound when compared to the stock cam? I'm not talking engine noises, I'm talking exhaust noise.

I hate my car being loud. I just want a nice soft rumble, not sound like open headers.

I ported my heads and did a cam change this spring (see info in sig) and noticed a HUGE change in the volume (loudness) of my exhaust. I'm not even kidding, it was night and day.

Tell me about it!

You have a more radical cam than mine, but damn, I had no idea this would be the result.

I hate noise!

I have the same exhaust system and just rebuilt the motor with a 206 comp cam. The exhaust has alot more drone at crusing speeds than before the engine work and I also noticed a change when I installed the TH downpipe before the engine rebuild. I think the cam allows for more flow and thus creates more noise I don't mind because the car runs alot better now. :D
