I just installed a 3000 rpm stall converter (stock D5 restalled). With the original D5, we were able to foot-brake to 8-10psi with no problems. After installing this new 3000 RPM converter, we can barley hold 2-3 psi (about 2500 RPMS). I did perform the "flash" stall test, by stomping on it from a stand still and recorded it with directscan. It appears to flash in the low 2000-2400 rpm range. This seems like it is wrong to me. With a higher stall, shouldnt we be able to put more rpm's while power braking, without the car straining as hard, or wanting to break the tires loose? It seems the opposite of what I expected to happen has happened. The cars combo is a TE-44 and V4 intercooler, 42lb injectors, downpipe, chip. Running mid 11's with the stock D5 cutting high 1.6 60-foot times on slicks.

Help!

Thanks!

bummer....

yes... you are experiancing the restalled d5 blues. You need more than a d5 for that particular combo. I really hope I didnt sell you that d5, LOLOL :D

Thanks for the quick reply, Bruce. So, was my line of thinking correct? With a real higher stall converter, we should have less strain, easier time boosting off the foot brake? Has this reworked D5 actually stalled lower than the stocker?

Thanks!

By the way, you didnt sell us this one, but you probably will sell the next one, a 9/11 :)

I could be wrong but....

I believe you are on the right track..:)

What stall 9/11 would you recommend for this combo, Bruce? Would it act as I am expecting?

Thanks again, this is like a chat room with such realtime response!

hrmmm

I would tend to lean to 2600-2800 but I like them conservativly tight. If you raced it more than you could even lean to 2800-3000, but I would stay around 2800 or so.
And, chat room?, yes we try...LOL :)

Haha thats funny.

Could you recommend the converter for the same combo, but using a PTE-51 instead of the 44?

Thanks for all the advice.

Bruce's 12" converter works good with mine but im working on going to a 9-11 myself for some killer holeshots
