Have just concluded a conversation w/ a source for new, cast cranks for 3.8's. The crank matl will be improved and will add an estimated 40% strength factor. There will be a change in the fillet arrangement, also.
The mfgr will also entertain strokes other than stock.
The crank has been drawn up and an ESTIMATED price of $600 is being considered as a target.
The mfgr has to have a comittment for 100 pieces per mo. for 36 months to consider the job doable.

INPUT?????
I'll leave the thread open for 10 days and report the activity, if any, at that time. :D

Not that I need a crank, but that was about the price of a new GM TTA crank.

I am sure they would go through 3600 units if they started selling some type of boost controller.

3600 seems to be alot of pieces. Maybe there is such a call for it. I wouldn't think though.

I am not sure if 3600 pieces is realistic in 36 months or not, but I would definately be in for one. Maybe 2 ;)

Sounds promising. 40% stronger would make it a good reliable 10 sec crank. Maybe it will work well in my offcenter S2 4.1 block.Since buying used steel cranks Is just not working out for me. Id be in for a couple too depending on how much more info we get on these pieces.

Chuck,
That sounds like too many cranks to me. Also, their is a guy in here somewhere that is quoting $900 for a good 4340 steel crank. With TA perf on it too, it sounds like their will be a flood of suppliers & any one manufacturer wouldn't have a big number of sales. With the interest shown so far, divided by 3 would really bring the qty's down for each manufacturer.
Just a thought.

Chuck, sounds good to me however TA Perf. is working on the crank issue too, and rods. We would need better rods to work with the crank. Check on the rod supply too! (nice H -beam style) Keep us posted! Gene
With Gene on this one too. I spoke to TA the other day and a 800 HP rated Steel twist crank is being negotiated which sounds real nice. If it doesn't pan out this sounds good too. I would like to get rods also!
