Turbo cars like turbo mufflers.

EDIT:

Turbos

Another object that might be sitting in your exhaust flow is a turbine from a turbocharger. If that is the case, we envy you.

Not only that, but turbos introduce a bit of backpressure to your exhaust system, thus making it a bit quieter. All of the typical scavenging rules still apply, but with a twist. Mufflers work really well now! Remember, one of the silencing methods is restriction, and a turbine is just that, a restriction.

This is actually where the term "turbo muffler" is coined. Since a turbine does a pretty good job of silencing, OEM turbo mufflers can do a lot less restricting to quiet things down. Of course, aftermarket manufacturers took advantage of this performance image and branded a lot of their products with the "turbo" name in order to drum up more business from the high performance crowd. We're sad to say that the term "turbo" has been bastardized in this respect, and would like that to serve as a warning. A "turbo" muffler is not necessarily a high-performance muffler.

the new flowmaster outlaw IS a straight through design....just wontering if anyone out there actually tried one out.

That's news to me if this new Chokemaster is a straight thru design, they've always been about being a chambered muffler.

Can you post what the part number is?

BTW IMO the best turbo muffler would be a Dynomax Ultraflow. It's the next best thing to an open pipe but much quieter.

Ahhh....ok.

Pretty much just a glorified glass pack.

No idea how well they'd flow, but they'd be obnoxiously loud though.

They didn't show if the inner tube was perforated or if it had raised louvers....smooth perforated tube is what you want. Raised louvers cause restriction in flow.

I got one, 3.5" its a REAL straight through design, my arm fits through it. real in the sense there is no packing material for sound absorption, and no core (perforated or louvered), or chambers. this outlaw muffler/resonator will only reduce sound, according to the flowmaster tech, by 2 maybe 3 db compared to open headers. I found the outlaw when I was looking for a resonator but I HATE the design of a perforated core with packing material in it, and the louvered cored resonators look even worse. This outlaw was the only resonator I have seen that doesn't have either, and I looked all over (USDM, JDM, and Europian markets). Flowmasters outlaw is truly unique to the market weather your going to use it as a muffler or a resonator or both. I REALLY wish I had the cash do update the "3 muffler" thread and try it with the outlaws. One for downpipe and two for mufflers with over axle piping, that would be bitchn!

I plan to run this 3.5" outlaw as a resonator after my downpipe, then to a Y pipe into dual 3" 10 series single chamber mufflers with turn downs. I also will be running a brand new cat, 3.5" 200 cell metallic spun substraight, (flows 30-40% more then the old "hi-flow" ceramic honeycomb substraight catalytic converters, is twice as small about 4-5" long, heats up faster, and burns cleaner because of its metallic properties). I am welding it right to my downpipe. That covers all of my exhaust; Downpipe, catalytic converter, resonator, mufflers.

I will pass california smog sniffer on top of all that :) Cheers:biggrin:

These aren't chambered mufflers.

Looks like a glasspack. Looks tidy, too.

Anybody run them?

EDIT

Day late and a dollar short, again.

So, this is not a muffler? Will it pass the visual inspection?

no core period yay! only small 'rings' like a bracelet for the ladies. shorty outlaws have 2 rings I think and the longer outlaws have 5. tech said shorties only reduce 1-2 DB maybe was repeated by him on the 2 DB, and the longer outlaws 2-3 DB maybe was repeated on the 3 DB. These should make good resonators for our grand nationals.

ok I'll go take pics

I'm wondering what a my 3.5 dp into duel 3.5" exhaust with two of these 3.5" and turn downs would sound like ?

Why do you want all that **** on your exhaust? I thought only Cadillacs ran resonators?

Why not just mufflers or just these Flowmasters?

Works like a Supertrapp muffler or no? I am assuming you can't remove the discs, but does it work the same way?

Tom

EDIT

Somehow?

I plan to run an outlaw muffler as my resonator, then after it two single chambers 10 series, should sound bad a**!

I live in cali and must be smog compliant I need a cat (might as well get the highest flowing, smallest, best designed one possible right?) :) My catalytic converter really is the **** thanks! its a Fabspeed cat all the way from germany, its the latest and greatest technology that an exhaust can possibly get. I am excited to try out all this new stuff. To me this is the **** because it will flow a ton more cfm then my old exhaust adding to my power potential, it will sound quite a bit louder, and be smog legal all were goals for me and my new exhaust.

check out the outlaw, look at the rings

ok, after looking at the vid on youtube, it seems the "rings" would cause alot of turbulence and flow issues ??

remember their pointed not sticking straight outwards. flowmaster tech claimed zero drop in cfm flow, only sound drops by 2 maybe 3DB, this is drag race only for races with muffler restrictions.

cheers! last one for the night, hmm double arrogant bastard yummy.
