Evening guys. I just picked up an 87GN. Needs some work.(177,000 daily driven midwest miles), but I got a deal I couldn't resist. Sitting in a barn last 5 years or so. The guy said he drove it in there and lost interest. I hauled it home, changed battery, oil, coolant, and it fired up in about 5 seconds. Since then its been started to move it around, and its been up and down the road a few times. I washed it and cleaned the mice nest out of it today afterwards it turns fine just won't start.
I did spray it down under the hood with the garden hose. But every thing looks dry now and still no go. Only other thing I did was change the alt/batt light in the dash. Its always started right up and seemed to run well for its age.

New to turbo buicks... where should I start?

does the bat/alt light work now? I believe it needs to work to complete the connection

Now the light works. I had to jump the car today and I knew the battery was good. After searching on here I found out about the light/connection.

If it didn't start right up after the wash, I've had this happen, it may be wet down by your spark plugs. I just used a little compressed air to dry it out real quick.

Hopefully that's your problem.

If not I'd start by checking to see if you have spark.... see if you have fuel pressure... Maybe you washed loose one of those all important grounds that was loose in there!!!! Look at the grounds, look for loose wires! Good luck!

WELCOME TO THE DARK SIDE......yes you probably just got some stuff wet just spray some wd40 on the sparkplug boots and on the coil pack....dont forget to do the SPRING CLEANING fron the gnttype site and represent the TR community properly by stomping on the stangs:biggrin:

Thanks for the replies guys. I've loved these cars for many years. I owned one right after high school and was stolen 9 months later. Never did any wrenching on it. Always wanted another to get into a little. I grabbed this one with plans for a restore. I think I'll let it sit overnight, check the grounds and check for spark tomorrow. I do have fuel... 40 psi while cranking. Thanks again.

Well, fuses and grounds look good. SES light comes on with key. approx.40 psi fuel pressure while cranking. However... no spark! I dont have access to scantool, and I cant get a noid light till monday. I did use a simple test light at the injector hanesses. With the key on, I get a light at both wires, and they seem to dim or flicker while cranking. this means the cam sensor is functioning correct? Should I be looking at the crank sensor? Any way to single it out?

Thanks.

Try unplugging the coil pack and module, blow some air in the wiring connection.

Also, pull the spark plug wires off the coil pack and see if there is any corrosion.

Sounds like your cam sensor is working fine, your right, the crank trigger is for spark. It might be wet, there are 3 wires on it, and possible its wet and not working.

What does 03DRCTD stand for, 03 cummins on drugs?

Quick6- Thanks, I'm going to start checking the coil/module. I was searching and found the troubleshooting tree. Got to be something simple as usual.

You were close, 03DRCTD= 03 Dodge Ram Cummins Turbo Diesel. Another addicting past time, also hard on the wallet.
