Well isn't this cute. Glad that someone can take $900 of my money for a new turbo but can't take two seconds to mention that you need different bolts for the drain line. Kinda SUCKS when you're finally installing your new turbo on a Sunday night and all the hardware stores are closed.

WHAT SIZE/THREAD BOLT DO I NEED FOR A NEWER PRECISION TURBO TO BOLT UP THE DRAIN LINE? THE STOCK ONES ARE TOO SMALL...

Might be able to make it to a Home Depot or something if someone gets back to me quick enough...

Turbo...

Sounds like U bought a big shaft turbo. Ur also going to have to drill out the holes on the drain. The new (bigger) bolts wont fit thru, so buy a drill bit to open up the holes a bit.

Mmm just what I need, more stuff on my to-do list. So much for that mid-week deadline of firing up the car. Would be sweet if my $900 got me any of this information ahead of time.

It's one of the newer boosted turbos 6157 standard bearing. Wasn't aware that I was going to need anything special.

Just bring the turbo to the hardware store with you and find the bolts you need? Sounds like you are making this more of an issue than it really is...

My GT70 DBB Innovative turbo (large shaft) had 10mm x 1.5 pitch I believe.

You also have to open the holes in the gasket a bit I think.

Someone makes a 10mm to 8mm stud but I forget who, found them a year after I did my install.

Use studs and be careful trimming those parts not much extra meat on them.

And double check to see what turbo you got?

Yeaaah don't think I'm gunna lug a 40lb turbo into the store with me. Yes in reality 2 bolts are no big deal but as I said, when you've been laying on a garage floor all day just trying to get your car put back together enough to install the new turbo, and then find out you need something else, it's a little frustrating. Plus I've called around and nothing around here is open 24 hours anymore, sooo great end to the weekend.

Thanks for the info, M10 sounds about right. I'll try that out. Precision 6157.

What, the 6157 needs bigger bolts and all that leg work to bolt on and they didn't tell you or give you a heads up? That is hopefully a misstep on their part and not something we all have to figure out on our own when we get these new turbo's.

Ooookay this keeps getting better. Grabbed some M10x1.25 bolts from work and then on the way home stopped and got M10x1.5 studs. Figured one would work and if it ended up being 10x1.5 I'd also be able to use the studs since people say it's easier for installing the braided drain line.

Aaaand neither of them want to thread in.

Glad that I've busted my butt for the last 2 weeks getting things put back together, all for 2 stupid bolts to stop me dead in my tracks.

Guess I get to call Precision tomorrow morning and so much for finishing my car this week.

More time + gas+ money at the hardware store + frustration, maybe I should have stuck with the stock turbo. You'd think for a $900 product they could throw in the hardware that you need.

I just bought a GT6162, waiting on delivery. Hoping I don't run into same problem. Come on suppliers, step up, help us avoid some frustration.

I don't think the oil drain bolts are M10's as they have 13mm heads, the Turbo bolts through the headers are M10 x 1.25 so I would think the oil drain is more along the M8 x 1.25.

Keep us informed.

I love Precision turbos...but when I bought my Turbonetics from Jack Cotton...dude, I got everything you need...bolt on and go...all I had to do was clock it a bit.

I can sympathize with you on this one. Precision makes good turbo's however their customer service sucks. The three times I have dealt with them have not been all that pleasant and I 100% agree with you that for $900 you would think they would want everything to install as smoothly as possible.

Haha you're all wrong. Called/emailed and found out they are 3/8 x 16. For some reason I was convinced they'd be metric. Sooo now I got some 3/8 studs but guess what they're too long and I need a cut-off wheel to trim them. Off from work tomorrow but I'll probably drive there just to get my cut-off wheel out of my tool box and trim these studs, I can't wait another day to install this turbo. This has been quite an ordeal... this turbo was supposed to be installed... 3 days ago now? Two trips to Ace Hardware and now I still need to trim the studs. What a pain. Good thing my GN isn't a daily driver or I'd be completely screwed trying to get this turbo installed quickly. Precision told me what I needed to know when I called and also answered my email but overall this is still kinda disappointing. The studs cost me $1.80, I think Precision can include that in the overall price of the turbo.

Well that size is smaller than 10mm so you probably won't have to trim the gasket or enlarge the holes in the drain tube flange.

However I'm sure you are gonna try the studs in both before you try to bolt it all up together. ;)

i dont at all mean to be rude or anything....

but what was wrong again with taking the turbo to the hardware store with you and fitting up the correct sized bolts?

I brought my ITS 70DBB to the hardware store (it happened to be woodhaven lumber) to get new 8.8 grade downpipe studs and brand new stainless steel nuts for 3 bolt header flange. Took me all of 5 minutes in the store to find the correct hardware that i needed.

I just dont understand the reasoning for starting a thread about the size of bolts...

Haha too late for that, I was pretty convinced that they were going to be 10x1.5 so I already drilled out the flange when I was at work the other day. Seems okay, 3/8 is close enough to 10mm that the stud doesnt have too much slack to move around. I'll make sure the gasket fits nicely.
