Ok thanks Quick6, how successful were getting your GN running. did you replace all ignition items.

I've got the motor out and getting a shortblock put together right now
I've owned 14 GNs so it's pretty easy stuff for me
I'd just buy new injectors ngk ur5 plugs , and a pump, change fluids and not even touch the sensors for now
Your opening up a can of worms for yourself if you don't know how to set the cam sensor. There's a reason that car was parked, maybe head gasket or rod knock. Put new fluids in it and crank it over, see if it runs

You could have it running today if you had a fuel pump.

Thanks, Well the car was parked when the husband passed away. The grandson tried to get the car running a long time ago and gave up. He pulled the tank to check fuel pump. So the car ran when it was parked

Welcome to the site. Personally, I would not replace the original sensors, fuel lines, or gas tank.

Scanmaster, fuel pump/ with hot wire kit, injectors, TT chip, plugs would be a must. Change the fluids. Put a zink additive in the oil. I would remove the cam sensor and prime the oil with a drill.

This ain't a small block Chevy. The number one thing you can acquire to make this car haul ass and live a long life is "Knowledge".

Thanks SPOOLFOOL2.. The only reason I was going to replace the tank and lines is because the pervious owner had taken the tank out and the sending unit because he thought pump was bad. He then let the parts sit for several years. The tank was rusty inside due to it being open, I figured since the tank was rusty so were the lines that were left opened. I have already ordered a tank, complete sending unit with a 340 pump. I've also got in new AC Delco coil and MSD wires and plugs and Zinc additive for when I do oil change. I have yet to start on the car until I gather all the parts also so I can clean the underbody and paint with some eastwood paint.

Here's what the GN looks like after giving it a bath for the first time in 12 years. The car will get professionally buffed with I get it running. I know I should focus on the engine but getting the car cleaned up definitely gave me some motivation to go in head deep in parts.

Some of the new gas tanks don't have the correct baffling and can cause the fuel pump to starve.
If you have one of these tanks, don't let the tank get too empty if you plan on getting into the boost
A hot wired Walbro 340 is a great choice.

Haha I will make sure I don't learn any form of a handshake....

Yeah I forgot to mention I ordered a hot wire kit as well. How crucial is it to change the valve springs. I know there a major problem but I would like to get my car running and figure the bugs out. I know I will for sure change the timing chain and Valve springs before I go putting any performance parts.


Another thing would it be a dumb idea for a newbie like me to try to do a E-85 conversion. I will have the Teflon coated lines, just some thoughts I had. I'm still trying to understand the use of a scanmaster.

I'd say to not worry about E85 or the valve springs at this point. Get it running well first.

Yeah I kinda thought it was way over my head. I will just concentrate on the basics first.
