buy the ford

i love my ford i own a superduty with a 6.8 v10 and it just pulls great
sure the fuel mpg isnt great but i didnt buy it for fuel economy it will geat 10mpg pulling 15,000 and 14.5 unloaded not using ethanal fuel and it pushes snow great and has plenty of room in side (crew cab ) the ride isnt the best
but oh well and ive had no problems with it if i pulled any more weight than 15,000 i would buy a semi because its hard to control that much weight with a 1ton pick up and beside it just whares a pickup out fast and what good is
a worn out truck just my 2 pennys luke

Diesel's costs more to buy then they cost more to service and up keep and the fuel is not very much cheaper if any than gasoline so tell me in the end where did you end up saving money?.

BTW since the new epa regs on diesels in 07 the power and fuel mileage has dropped.

Uhhhh,NO.

Diesels cost more on the purchase price yes.More to service? Not most of the time, theyre rock soilid reliable.

During winter, diesel was the same as premium, now its about $.020 cheaper per gallon on averge and if you shop around, you can find it about $.040 cheaper. At leaset where I live.

I save $$$ as ive got a 500hp 7000lb truck that gets 23 MPG.Not gonna happen with ANY gasser.Esp at 500hp.

And apperantly you havent seen the Formula 1 diesel? The power is higher than ever and the mileage has about leveled off. What do you expect when most diesel cars are getting 40+mpg though?

so you mean to tell me when it comes time to change the oil and filter and other normal maitenence items they cost as much as my gas truck? don't diesels hold like 12-14 quarts of oil? and the filters are double the price. fuel filters have to be change more often so yes i am correct when i say they cost more to service.

Diesels are great if you gonna be towing/hauling heavy loads every day but to buy a 3/4 ton deisel truck to ride back and forth to work is not very cost efficeint to me. some may see it the other way but i don't.

my friend has a 07 gmc seirra classic 6.6L duramax and it gets 16 MPG around town my 06 chevy silverado with the all alum 5.3L gets the same fuel mileage as he does. yes he has more torque/power than me but his truck is a 3/4 ton so it weighs more. so the balance is pretty equal to me.

everybody has their opinions this is mine so flame else where please!

Here's my 02's worth. First, go drive all the 1/2 Tons out there. I will guarentee that there will be something right off the bat that you do not like about a couple of them. That will narrow your choice down. Next, go on the forums for the truck(s) you are really interested in and you should be able to find any common problems or shortcomings associated with them. Basically, just do your own homework and make your own decision.

Well...NOMEX ON!!!

I've got a 2004 Furd Lightning that get's 14 MPG at 120 MPH...I don't have a clue what it get's at normal speeds cause I can't keep my foot out of the tank. It's a fun little truck for what it is.

My GN got around 22-23 MPG on the highway.

My company truck is an '06 F150 King Cab. A complete POS. I've had an A/C clutch replaced, a power steering pump, a transmission and the interior cloth has torn in two different places. All in under 40,000 miles. Not to mention that the seat hurts my ass. Because of the problems, our company has decided to switch all vehicles over to Dodge 4 door Hemi's...that's over 4,000 units total.

I'm a truck guy. I couldn't give two $hits about gas mileage. I'm more concerned with comfort and function. Besides, I have a company fuel card :p Diesel down here is 3.99 a gallon and 87 is 3.29. And, yes, diesels cost more for basic up keep. My friends '08 F250 King Ranch diesel gets 11 MPG and costs twice as much for an oil change as my half ton.

What I'm getting at is...get what YOU want. Get what fits in your budget, and more important, what fits your ass. Because when it's all said and done, YOU have to drive it, and don't worry about what some tree hugger says about your gas hog.

go head and laugh all u want but i got to say chevy. Y You all ask well i have a 92 1500 silverodo with 193,000 and still going. I bought it used with 107,000 on it in 2000. The poor thing has been to h#ll and back but still looks 1/2 good no cab corner rust 1 rust spot on the drivers door and 2 dents (from them d@mn deer) the 4.3 v6 has never let me down and never been rebuilt i say it has the guts like a v8. No oil leeks of any kind. I have ran #'s of trips to the scrap yards and have put tons of gravel and dirt in it. Lets not get started on all the cars i pulled out of ditches and pulled, god only know how many cars. have had people ask what i want for it but i tell them not for sale i will drive it till the wheels fall off and then some. the only money that i have put in it has been the normal plugs,oil,filters,u-joints,and etc, etc. LOVE MY CHEVY and the BUICK:biggrin:

I like the GMC front end better than the Chevy. But I did see a "blacked-out" Chevy on the interstate this past weekend. It was SWEET. The only shiney stuff was the bowtie in the grill and the tail pipes, even the wheels were black.

I have an 05 Chevy 2500 CCSB Duramax and love it. Sure it cost me more up front and a bit more on maintance, but it gets the same milage that my 02 Chevy 1500 EXSB 4.8 used to get with both running empty. Pulling or loaded, the diesel blows the gas burner out of the water. The 2500 is also much easier to drive when loaded. I hated the "white knuckle" driving of the 1500 when pulling a 2000# trailer with a 3700# car on it. I was getting close to have to go into the trans on the 1500 due to all the towing and loaded driving I did. The 2500 doesn't break a sweat.

I drive the truck a couple of days a week, when the wife and I don't carpool in her 00 Regal.

So it was all "Murdered Out" Aka: all Black?

Also factor in that pretty much every new GM truck is a flex fuel vehicle. I know people will argue on both sides as far as the country's direction for E85, GM has a joint venture with a company to produce e85 for about a buck to buck and a half per gallon. That may not be the deciding factor for you, just make sure you work that into the equation. Wouldn't it be awesome if you could just put whatever is cheapest in and the truck would run the same:)

I'm holding out for hydrogen:)

Not to jack the thread, but I am in the same position here as a couple of others. I like having a truck, and fullsize vs mid size, the price is the same and so is fuel economy, so What trucks do get decent mileage. Some days I drive up to 200 miles for work, so fuel cost is a big issue for me. My frontier V6 gets 15 in town, 18 highway, for that I can have a 8 cyl crew full size can't I?
If fuel cost keeps rising I may be in a 4 cyl compact truck...... DOOOOH

Looking at all the diesel comments, I have one. Diesel fuel in SE Mich. is $4.00 a gallon:eek: Unleaded is $3.19. I cant even save money on gas anymore for diesel.

Not surprised to see the results one bit.

I guess the GMC & Chevy catagories didn't need to be combined to run away with the poll.
