Hey Guys ---

I just picked up my TTA today. What a fun car!!! I own a Syclone too ... so this isnt my first turbo 6.

Its a cloth / t-tops with 151,000 miles , but drives GREAT. Has an RPM Performer Edelbrock Cam, razor alky, nitto drag radials, KN filter, and flowmaster exhaust.

The last digits of the vin are 5390 ... but these arent in order like the Syclones. Do I have to pay to find out what number I have?

Well, I am excited to be in the community. I will post pics when I get them  ---

Send me $149.99 and Ill tell you what ever ya want your car # to be :p I like the cloth interior cars .. Leather was cold as hell in the winter up here:cool:

Thanks guys :) , hahaha.

The crank sensor was bad so the car sat for the last year.

I am surprised with the amount of looks I get in it. I didnt know many people knew about them!!! ---

Cool, congrats .... very early car ... you got no 5 of the 1550 built!! And yes its a festival car delivered to Tom Wood Pontiac Inc in Indiana. Did you happen to buy it from John Sandomierski?

Could I ask you got the 6 nimbers in the id plate rivited to the upper radiator panel? This is the sequence number as buit at the Van Nuys plant (so the the order of the mix of 3rd Gen's built). Also do you happen to see the serial number of your inter cooler (on the Garrett label you see on top of it)?

WOW, that is exciting!!! #5 of the 1550?

What exactly is a Festival Car? Is it one that was used somewhere during the actual INDY race? I have seen other cars on here with "festival numbers", and signout sheets (to see if someone famous drove it)?

I will get those numbers for you tonight or tomorrow from under the hood. Thanks a ton for the help!!!

As far as I know it was owned by Jeff, Josh, and a guy named Andrew. I am in St. Louis, MO .

Welcome to the group. I've only had mine a couple months now and its a blast. Its going to be a fun summer. Looking forward to some events.

Here's some info I posted on turbotransam.com

Info about the 1989 cars used at Indy

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thought I post the info I got many years ago from the gentleman at Indy responsible for the numbering and plating of the pace cars, parade cars and support vehicles for the 1989 event ....

This is what he sent me:

All of this information is from the 1989 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car program file. As all of you already know the Turbo Trans was the "Official Pace Car" that year with GMC being the "Official Truck"

As we do this every year all of the cars that are going to be used during the months from March until May for this event are assigned a number. All cars receive this on the front windshield down low by the VIN number with the trucks and vans to have them applied to both the front and rear glass. The plate that is issued matches this number. The basic guide is that all of the "Official Pace Cars" that are used by the Speedway are numbered 1-80. These are then broken down again and the 500 Festival Committee then gets 34 cars with the remainder to be kept and issued by the Speedway. The Press cars are then numbered 81-100 and the last are usually Administrative units.
Vehicles numbered in the high 200 are normally support units or as they have been issuing Teams vehicles and that is why you see such a high number. We do have the BMV press plates up to 300 to 350 as sometimes the manufactures usually send more in after the first group arrives and is processed.

I hope this explains how the plating process works and here are the numbers from 1989 and there assignment.

Cars plated 1, 2, 3, and then from the numbers 53-78 were used by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and these are what we call Track Cars. Cars numbered 4 through 40 were issued to the 500 Festival Committee (now it is called Indy Festivals) All of the cars from 41-51 were used for the parade and on race day for the drivers parade around the track.
Units numbered 79 through 83 were GMC Safari vans with 84 being a Bonneville SSE.
Cars then numbered 85 through 156 were replicas and some of these had press assignments. The GMC Safari vans then were numbered 157-161 for Pontiac Administrative use. Cars numbered 162-171 were Bonneville SSE models and were for Admin usages with 172-206 being Sunfire Convertibles and these were used for the parade and press and Admin and others during the month of May.

Here is the total recap of the different models that were used:

500 Festival Committee

50 Trans Am replicas

Indianapolis Motor Speedway

3 Actual Trans Am Pace Cars
28 Trans Am Replicas
5 Safari Wagons
10 Bonneville SSE
1 Bonneville LE

Support and Courtesy Vehicles

72 Trans Am Replicas
35 Sunbird Convertibles
10 Bonneville SSE
5 Safari Wagons

Total 219 units

RECAP

3 ACTUAL TRANS AM PACE CARS
150 PACE CARS REPLICAS
35 SUNBIRD CONVERTIBLES
10 SAFARI WAGONS
10 BONNEVILLE SSE
1 BONNEVILLE LE

Note that the build number have nothing to do with the sequence number given to the cars used at Indy for different duties as they were just numbered at random. One of the guys on here do have the sign out sheets for the cars used for press duties etc and he might shime in with your festival car number and who drove it during the event etc.

This is neat stuff :).

I am almost scared to drive it now , HAHAHA jkjk . I am going to cruise it in about 30 min!!!

I really appreciate your time/help. ---

Very cool piece of history you're cruising around in right now. Post up some pics up of your ride for sure now. I always loved TTA's.This used car lot over in Hayward used to get GN's and T-type's in semi often. They actually got a TTA with 38k miles back in '94. We went for a ride in it and it ripped. They only wanted $10,000 for the car. I tried to convince my mom to loan me the money but I couldn't convince her. I had a crappy job at the time. About a year later I got the GN in my sig and she loaned me $2k for the down payment and I paid her back. Congrats on your TTA

Congrats on your purchase. Number 5, wow!! Mine's build number 82 and Indy number 75 or 76 (hard to read the last digit. It looks like a 5 but someone else said they had 75 in and old post here so maybe it's a 6?).

They are a blast to drive aren't they? Enjoy it as much as you can today because when these cars go through the roof pricewise I think (and hope!) the Festival cars will be at the front of the pack. Ah, we can dream can't we? Lol.

I will get an exhaust clip/ vids soon. These are pics before I had a chance to detail it. I want to tint it too:

Are those the stock tips?

The car has an AutoMeter Pyrometer ... is that telling me how hot the exhaust gases are? What should it read? ---

Looking good!!!

Not sure if you had the rear license plate of or not but that's where indy market the number (sometimes called festival car number) of the cars they used at the track using a grease pen or similar ... if your lucky it's still there!

Congrats! But my OCD is kicking in on that pic. Too darn close to that parking block:eek: Lookin nice tho!:D

HAHA, is that because of the intercooler? I have had 2 cars hit in this parking lot so far from people backing out ... so I get it as far away from the other cars as I can, lol ---
