I bought a turbo off of ebay, and it was listed as a ta 49. I just got it today, and was thinking that it should be a direct bolt installation. However, the part that bolts to the headers is square, instead of the "triangular" shape. Is this a 49?? How can I tell what it is for sure?

a ta49 has a stock appearing compressor housing with a 58mm comp wheel. you may just happen to have one with a 4 bolt housing on it. call precision, turbonetics, etc to get a 3 bolt housing, although, i hear 4 bolts flow more and on a small turbo like that i doubt spool will be affected that greatly.

well, I have the old housing from my original turbo...I can just bolt that on???

or is the housing I need one that works with the 49?

You will need to have the housing cut to work with the exhaust wheel that you have.

You might just get a Precision housing and it should bolt up. That is if the turbo that you have is indeed a 49. The only way to tell is to take the compressor housing off and measure it.

You could take the exhaust housing off and measure the exhaust wheel also.

That would ensure that you know what turbo you have. There is no need to order an exhaust housing to fink out that it does not fit because you do not have a 49.
