What's the best wax process for a new GM truck??
Also, can this same product be used on a factory repaint on the 87 Turbo T?

I'll be at the hospital on Wed...There's a 6' redhead w/ green eyes and freckles, that will do just fine!!

It's all in the prep and it depends on the current condition of the finish. That determines if you should just top with a good wax or sealant or if you need some correction done to remove oxidation, swirls, scratches, etc. before you top with wax or sealant. Do the prep right and one can make any decent wax or sealant look great.

Technology has come a long way when it comes to paint protection. Back in the day majority of people used wax. I still do on occasion to change things up but advances in sealants and its ability to provide longer lasting protection (and look good) has me reaching for that more often than wax these days.

My current process includes:

Wash/Claybar/Wash
Polish with Menzerna SF4500 using a random orbital polisher http://www.pakshak.com/menzerna-super-finish-sf4500-32oz.html
Top with 2 coats Blackfire Wet Diamond by machine or hand http://www.pakshak.com/blackfire-wet-diamond-all-finish-paint-protection-sealant-16oz.html

Nothing wrong with Zaino or Zymol. Both are completely different products though with vastly different application processes. Zaino was considered top dog by many in the shine and gloss department but its a royal pain in the ass and time consuming to apply CORRECTLY. Advances in sealant technology almost makes it not worthwhile these days considering the time and effort you need to invest to do it right. Just my worthless 2 cents worth. I'm sure some will disagree. Asking what everyone's best/favorite wax is is like asking what brand oil should I use and we all know how those threads end up! :D

Not the best pic but this should give you an idea of the results using the products listed above. This is an all original paint GN....

626 makes great points! It's all in the prep. So many people are under the impression that wax is applied to obtain or produce a shine. IT IS NOT.
You produce the shine you want with polishes.
Waxes are strictly for protection, not shine.

Wash, Claybar, Wash, Machine Polish (DA machine only!), Machine polish (finish polish), Sealant (my preference is Griot's Garage). Sounds like a lot of work, but all can be accomplished in a day, maybe two depending what kind of surface you're starting with.

My preferred polishes are Meguires 205 and 105, my preferred sealants are Griot's Garage, and my preferred wax is Mother's pure Carnuba.
I've tried synthetics, I HATE them!!! A lot like synthetic oils, a pure waste of money.

Gives me a pretty good finish.

OP, for your benefit, I use all these same products on my new car also.

Now, with all that being said, all those steps I mentioned in my previous post do not have to be done more than once a year on a nice garage kept vehicle, or maybe twice a year if your car is subject to adverse conditions, and if your GN is unfortunate enough to have to sit out in the elements, well.....
I do the the whole dance once a year, and during the summer cruise/show months all I have to do is spray on some Mother's Show Time (detailer) at each show and that's it.

I love the mirror like finish I've obtained on both my GN's.

Damn!!!! Looks like you're in front of a mirror with your GN parked behind you? LOL!!!

Zaino for sure! It's not that time consuming either. Once the car has one or two good coats on it, you can wax the car in 30 minutes. It's very quick as you shouldn't use a lot once it's on. I've never seen a normal wax look as good as a well done Zaino job.

But I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff I've never tried too!

TurboDave are you sealing with Griots and then topping the sealer with Mothers? Isn't the Griots a synthetic?
Looks great !

Not on the same panels. I'm experimenting. I put a sealer on the roof and Mothers everywhere else. I'm new to griot's so I'm just trying it out. It says polish and wax in one step, but doesn't say anything about synthetic. I'm trying it on a recommendation.

Except for the Maguires polishes I use, I'm pretty much a Mothers guy.

I was surfing the Zaino site, and saw an interesting item. Vehicles delivered by rail, can have "rail dust"
on/in the paint. Seems the rails throw steel dust off, and it blows into the cars, contaminating the vehicle paint.
There comes the necessity to clay bar the vehicle prior to wax.
My 2014 truck is most certainly contaminated w/ industrial dirt, as it's been built and sitting since last yr.

Berry interesting....

Claybar was the first thing I did to my Lincoln when I got it home. Since being built in Canada, it most certainly traveled by rail.
Then did a Maguires DA machine polish, followed by Mothers Carnuba wax.

Forget the clay to remove rail dust. Look up Iron X made by Carpro, available on Amazon. One bottle will treat one vehicle. It will chemically remove iron from the clear coat. Awesome stuff! You can clay after using Iron X.
