:) Hello y'all, I'm new in here but not new to GN's. Although I just became the proud owner of a nice project. I will need lots of help from whoever takes time to answer my questions. The car is an '86 model which was running ok. It had a slight stumble while idiling when I went to get it. This went on for the first 300 miles I drove it. Then the engine light started to come on intermitently every few minutes. After sometime, the engine light started to blink like 3-4 times per second. Eventually the car died. Anyone care to take a shot at this? The temperature climbed to around 210 degrees and stayed there until the car was allowed to cool off. What is the normal operating temperature on these cars?  I'm Odessa, Tx BTW.

The stumble could be several things. Check the coil pack first. Have you hooked up a scanner to check the ses light? I have had a bad computer chip do the samething your describing.
On operating temps what stat are you running? It also depends on how good your cooling system is? I run a 160 stat and run around 175-180.

I do not know much about the car or any mods done to it. I went to get it and never made it home. The car is still out there somewhere and I gotta go get it this weekend. I will post my findings when I do get it home finally. :o  "runs good" my ...umm eye! that's what the ad said. Anyway, I still cannot believe I own one! I did notice a lot of black smoke coming out the exhaust right before it died for good. I hope it's something simple!

I'd check the codes. Black smoke could be a bad MAF. The overheating is probably the original radiator combined with the original thrermostat.

I'm currently in Fort Stockton at the Big Bend Open Road Race with my 2+2. There's even a GN in the race (a guy from Midland), this year, which is the first I've seen.

I'll be the new guy to the area, 2 yrs. from July, My wife and i are moving to odessa which is where she grew up

I'll be working on the GN this weekend hopefully. I have seen the video of your 2+2. It's awesome. My 2+2 needs some body work plus it sill sport the 5.0 still. I might swap in a 400sbc I got when I get time and more $$. I just had to sell a complete Martin Turbo System set-up that was supposed to aid the sbc with a good 6-7psi boost. Had to sacrifice it for the GN. :D

Sounds like we could get some Buick get togethers arranged out here.

get togethers

sounds great, soon as i can get mine put together after the move, still a plain old limited , with a 5.0, a v6 longblock ,and a few other parts, trying to get everything i need to do it up. Jim

Any of you guys contacted Art Freeman from I believe Lubbock. Huge knowledge base on TR's and a real nice guy.

A buddy of mine named David lives in Midland and has an 86 GN hardtop also. Not sure if he's on the board but he is always looking for other owners in the area. He used to be a big fan of the Monte Carlslow SS and had an 87 Aerocoupe before he took a ride in my GN and instantly became a GN fan:biggrin: He sold the Monte Carlo.

Well guys,
I did a repost under the technical forum and since then I fixed the car. It turns out the MAF sensor AND the plug wires were junk. This led to fouled up plugs(all of them!) and as a result I got a weird code(rapid flashing engine light) which turns out it means ignition system failure. Indeed! So, I replaced the plugs, wires and MAF with OEM stuff and the car runs pretty good save for a slight miss when it idles. I got on it a few times and it runs like a top. Somehow I want a lil' bit more out of it:biggrin: Overall, I am impressed. Now for the cosmetics part.;) I'm just glad I didn't spend big money "fixing" what wasn't broken.
