Per Razors request... I started a new thread.....

First time out of the garage.... after system was purged.... default settings on extender chip....default on translator.... car popped and farted and surged above 5 psi.... ended up cutting alky back to like 10 o'clock position.. and trimming WOT fuel back on the translator to like 4% lean. This helped alot..... All my mods are in my sig.... I think my best pass tonight... it didn't pull exactly smooth....until I got into 3rd and the converter locked..... then she was pulling nicely.... this pass was an 8.24 @ 85 mph with a horrible 1.96 60' time.... just wouldn't hook. this was with 2-3 deg of retard through the run... alky knob around 9 o'clock...(probably cut the alky back a little too much). O2's were about 810 until I got in 3rd.. then they progressively dropped to around 750 or 760 .. Does it need more fuel?.... or do I need to cut the alky up some... and then the boost a little? Boost on that run was probably 20# ... maybe a little more.

What do I need to do with my BLM's? They run in the low 130's most of the time just cruising around...I can compensate for this with the chip.... does this need to be sitting real close to 128... cruising around? If so... I need to do the compensation in the chip..... and then I will have to trim WOT fuel back some more to keep it from being fat at WOT.

Forgive me if this is tuning 101.... but I am a newb on this alky tuning.

Sent ya a PM.. here's a copy of it..

DIY relay wiring as follows.. You'll need to cut the Pink 12volt wire going to the translator..or cut the Pink wire coming from the harness.. wire a 30 amp relay as follows.

Pink from GN harness to terminal 85
Ground to terminal 86
Power from back of alternator terminal 30
Pink to translatorn terminal 87

Or buy harness with male/female plugs..relay.. fuse.. etc no wire cutting for 30 shipped..

Cheers.

Thanks Razor.

Oh... Forgot to mention in my previous post above.... car was tuned great on pump gas on about 13 psi boost... just a slight amount of knock (1-2 deg) at each shift point.... O2's around 800.... all of this was done before installing the Alky kit.

I read a post last night on here... that said it was real easy to drown a stock turbo'd motor with alky....this was what I initially thought might have been what was causing the bucking and kicking..... but seems to have gotten much better since I leaned the WOT fuel back like 4%-6%.... with the translator.

Next question.... would you pull WOT fuel out with the chip... using the BLM correction.... or the translator...... or is there something else I am missing? I have left the FP alone... and don't plan on messing with it unless Razor or Mike Licht tells me differently.

Ohh.... I'm running 100% methanol (the clear stuff) if that makes any difference......

Get it running clean with alky at low boost.. then start to crank it up.

By your posts you havent gotten it to run cleanly with alky at low boost. Worry bout the higher boost latter.. One step at a time.. baby steps... there is no McDonalds on this stuff.. sometimes there is..sometimes there isnt.

Post back when you get the bottom end figured out(less than 15 PSI boost)

I know... I know.... patience grasshopper! :o

I tuned on it some tonight. I hooked up the wastegate with the stock “y” back into the wastegate solenoid just like the factory did it. I made 5 “runs” tonight beginning to tune. Wastegate actuator was adjusted to give 17 lbs boost. Translator set to pull 6% fuel out at WOT. All this fuel pulling out... I bumped the knob on the alky up to 75-85%.... knobs in the PAC are factory default.

Tonight's Recap.

I started off by doing a BLM correction.. to try and bring BLM's down to 128-130 when cruising around....raised cell 11 by 1 to a 9. I made a run.... looked at DS log... pulled 4% fuel for 1st and 2nd gear @ WOT (cell 15 went from 8 to a 6). Made another run.... looked at DS log.... played with WOT TCC speed and pulled some more fuel out of 1st and 2nd (cell 15 went from a 6 to a 4).... looked DS log.... pulled some more fuel out of 1st and 2nd WOT (cell 15 went from a 4 to a 2).... 1 hr later.... pulled some more fuel out of 1st and 2nd gear (cell 15 went from a 2 to a 1). This brings the total amount of fuel pulled out in cell 15 to 13%.... made a run..... looked at DS log.... decided to leave fuel alone... and bump timing up for 1st and 2nd gear by 1 degree (this makes for a 24/21).... made my last pass....

Observations: Car is running much better and more consistant... no popping or surging.... still feels like it is pulling a little smoother when rolling into it w/o going to WOT.....like never getting over 2/3 throttle.....not real sure what is up with that.... O2's were hovering around 800 through the first two gears on the last pass... occassionally dipping to the high 700's. I am getting some knock counts early in the run.... but hardly ever any retard......??? I realize I am putting a fair amount of alky in..... but why do I get knock counts....and usually no retard...???

DS file is here:

DS log from last run

It is running good enough... and the DS files look ok... cutting up the boost 1-1/2 turns on the WG actuator... gonna tune some tomorrow.... pulled the degree of timing I added on that last run... since I am upping the boost a little. Hopefully it will fall around 19 psi.... maybe 20 psi. O2's still look slightly richer than I want... but increasing the boost a pound or two might lean it out just a little..... I guess I will see tomorrow.

Razor,

It appears my car need slightly more initial alky.... but less final alky....

It seems to get quicker by turning the blue knob down... but at some point.... my audible knock goes off on th initial stab (withing a second or so of the initial stab)... then goes off and is silent throught the rest of the run.... DS shows some knock counts... but hardly any retard.

It acts like it needs less alky on the big end..

Whatcha think?
