Hey guys have have been lurking for a while and I have found a 85 Turbo Regal that is local that I would like to buy. Before I go look t it what are the areas that prone to have problems/rust. How do you guys feel about t-tops or hard top. Which one carries the higher value? Thanks!

Not sure about the question of value, but I think many will feel that the hardtop is the better vehicle.
Rust is apparently common at the bottom of the doors, floorboards, and trunk area. I think can be more prevalent in T Top cars.

This should give you a basic idea of things to look for:
The Turbo Regal Buyer's Guide

The hardtop is probably slightly more desirable and worth a bit more but not by a huge amount. Mostly it comes down to personal preference, some people only want one or the other and some don't really care. Astroroofs, however, are normally worth a bit more than either.

look for and 86 or 87 you will be much happier and they are easier to work on. plus waaayyy faster

86/87 are the desired years because the turbo was moved up front making things easier to get to. But the main reason is they are factory intercooled wich ads more power and makes them worth more.

In 1986 the GN was redesigned somewhat and they added an intercooler, reprogrammed elctronics and moved the turbo to the front of the engine (among other things). It produces more horsepower than the 84-85 and there are more aftermarket parts for the intercooled cars.
They also produced alot more cars in 1987, so finding used parts is easier for the "second generation GN".
I hope this helps you decide.

also from what i understand there are more replacement parts for the 86/87's (stock/aftermarket)
