Nitromethane!?

It think your first call would be to Houston....to tell them you have lift off.

A fella at the track has been pushing me to try a 10% nitro mix. He claims that no other tuning changes are needed for 10%. Another alky burner took him up on it, and it actually worked pretty good.

kaboom!!!

LOL Holy cow! I said 10%! NOT pure nitro!

Anyone that has played with model engines knows that model engine fuel is mainly methanol with differing percentages of nitro thrown in.

I've seen some nitrous/gasoline fellas throw in a little too.

Cool pic. At least the bodywork held up. Just throw on another set of heads.

wanna really go fast?

try "spiking" your alky mix with 3 or 4 DROPS of hydrazine, and call me the day after.

 A.j.

B-Stoff + M-Stoff = C-Stoff.

That's what propelled the first rocket powered fighter jet in WWII. I think you're trying to get me in trouble.

Stuck deep in the back of my mind is a special on top fuel I saw. I thought I recalled that Nitromethane burns slow but the detonation limit is real low. So it would be counterproductive to inject it.

Quite to the contrary, if you know how to tune with it.

You're right about the properties. You're memory is still good.

So how can injecting something with a lower detonation limit help. It is an oxygen bearing fuel so I imagine that would help.

You would not inject the nitro alone. You would be injecting it along with methanol. As we all know by now, alcohol does a good job of controlling detonation. That sets the stage for the nitro.

I've done it.

10% Nitro w/ Meth you need to mix it in with the meth because straight Nitro will not mix with fuel it just won't atomize. I really didn't see a big difference but, it sure burns the eyes when you hit the purge button on the alky kit. ;)

Maybe I just needed to run more? :D

Hydrazine and propylene oxide was what we used in the 60's.. Once it stopped fuming, it was an unstable compound. We dumped the Moon tank after every run, and changed heads every week...
Didn't take long for NHRA to outlaw it. Sure did make for an interesting "light show", at nite...
Face shield, gloves, and a rubber apron was used to handle it... SCARY STUFF!!
The likes of Sneaky Pete Robinson, Connie Kalleta, Sid Sealy, The Greek, all tried such stuff..The "World Series @ Cordova was a fun place, back then!

A 10% mix of nitro in your auxiliary methanol injection system is going to yield a much smaller actual percentage when your total fuel intake (overall mix of gasoline, methanol and nitro) is taken into consideration.

propylene oxide is still very rampant in the circle track community, those super truck and imca guys really swear by the stuff. might have to give it shot. Anyone have any Data on using it in a TR?
