Anybody here on the board try running alky on the gas side of a nitrous system on the turbo Buicks yet? If so what results did you have and what problems did you run into if any?

Thanks

Chuck

Coincidentally, I was on the phone with Top Gun Nitrous Systems about 4 days ago, discussing this very topic. They said that they have seen every combination out there- gas engines enriched with gas, gas enriched with alcohol, alcohol engines enriched with gas, etc., etc. All with no problems.

Apparently the only difficulty comes in that the nitrous is a bit harder to tune (wasn't clear as to why, but I would guess it doesn't show up on plugs like gas does) but is more forgiving if there is a problem.

FWIW...

We have a local guy that runs alcohol on a NA car and said the same thing that you can run as much as 25% rich with no ill affect on preformance. For tuning he use an EGT gage. He stated that he can run quite a bit more timing with the alcohol then with racing fuel. I want to try running it with a separate fuel pump, maybe the smc kit modified by running the line to the gas solenoid, that way you can increase the pump speed to rich it up if the egt temp gets to high. I was hoping to run more boost with the alcohol. If you find out anymore or try it please let me know what your experiences are. I will do the same.

Thanks

Actually the reason I was talking about it is that I am considering doing it myself. Right now I draw all of my fuel from the gas tank, but I'm considering putting a second tank of some sort (such as a fuel cell in the trunk) so that my enrichment fuel is either high-octane race fuel, alcohol, toluene-enriched pump gas, or something. Right now I think I am going to go the race-fuel route, but Alcohol is certainly feasible.

On another note, I have heard from several sources that an EGT on a nitrous motor can be very misleading. Good-running cylinders can look hot, and lean ones can look good. Just a note of caution. Best bet is to check plug readings.
