Ok, I have my oil leak fixed, new pressure sensor and the wire fixed(they were pretty beat up)

I pull up the street with my O2's at something like 890...the oil pressure gauge falls to zero...the car sputters then dies

I have fuel...but now no spark!!!

The code was either 41 or 42, i'm thinkin 42...could be 41 though...

The ecm for some reason erased the code...anyway...what can my culprit be besides the ignition module? The coilpack was tested tonight, around 10 ohm's between the posts...sooooo aside from the module what else could it be? Crank sensor is new, now if it IS 41 which is a cam sensor, would that stop the spark?? Should I have unplugged it and tried to start it?

I need help here guys, need a list of everything this possibly could be :(

thanks!

Since the ECM erased the code maybe there is intermittent power getting to it.

Or it could be the crank sensor, or cam sensor, or module, or coil pack

No, if you un plug the cam sensor the car won't start. Code 41 is a cam sensor code though, and it could definately be the problem. I would get under the car and look at the crank sensor though. Which groove of the crank sensor did you use?

take the top off your cam sensor and make sure the interruptor ring is tight (single screw on top holds it in) and in the slot.......you can sometimes start, sometimes not, if loose

i have no idea, i didnt' put the crank sensor in...it was put in when the motor was dropped in...i really think it was code 42, but if code 41 could related to it was well..then I guess I have a lot of searching to do...if it WAS a code 42 what could it be then?

Believe it or not, Autozone sucessfully tested one for me. Although a Caspers tester would be preferable. That or swap with a known good one. Good luck!

the more I read and think about it I doubt it's the crank sensor...i'll check the cam sensor but i'm leaning more towards the module...shame I haven't jumped on John's module and coilpack deal yet, would've come in handy

Tony,

if it was CODE 42, this is an explanation:

Trouble Code 42 indicates that there may be a malfunction in the Electronic Spark Timing (EST) system.

During cranking, the timing is controlled by the ignition module while the ECM monitors the engine speed. When the engine speed exceeds 400 RPM, the ECM sends a BYPASS signal to the ignition module which switches the timing to ECM control. The ECM calculates what the timing should be then "tells" the ignition module via the EST circuit.

An open or ground in the EST circuit will stall the engine and set a Code 42. The engine can be re-started but it will run on ignition module timing.

The conditions for setting this code are:

System in BYPASS mode but the ignition module is still controlling timing

- or -
Engine speed > 600 RPM with no EST pulses (ECM controlled timing) going to the ignition module for 200 msec.

Typical causes for this code include:

1) BYPASS line is open or grounded
2) EST line is open or grounded
3) PROM or CALPACK not seated properly in the ECM
4) Poor connections between ignition module and ECM
5) Poor routing of EST harness and/or poor quality ignition wires (EMI induced electrical noise)
6) Faulty or incorrect ignition module
7) Faulty ECM

This and other error codes can be viewed here:http://www.gnttype.org/maint/malf.html

thanks, I did find that over there :)

So basically if its not the cam sensor(lke i said it could've flashed code 41) it's probably the ignition module, would you agree?

Could be any of the above, but if you are sure you have no spark, I would at least crawl under the car and visually inspect the crank sensor.

positive there is no spark, though the coil packs checked out ok...i'll still check all 3 though

It's possible. However, I do agree with striker_29 in that all possible visible inspections should performed before going in just 1 direction.

ok, i replaced the module and the crank sensor, still no spark or injector pulse...is the only thing left the cam sensor?? Please say that's all that's left, i'm at my wits end with this swap and i'm VERY close to throwing in the towel, this swap was a huge mistake...

I find it a little strange that you mentioned the oil pressure going to zero, then the car sputters and dies... Are you saying your oil pressure went first, and then the car died soon after?

Since the oil pump and the camshaft sensor are driven off the same gear, maybe this is where the problem is? I've read that excessive oil pressures and loads on the "Intermediate" shaft can sometimes take out cam sensors if the conditions are right. Maybe this is worth a look... Seems like you checked everything else.

Good Luck!
