I have a problem with my 87gn. One day the car just did not start anymore. when i tried to start it,My dash started to flicker, also my knock gauge started flasing. The car would not crank. some ticking noises from the fuel pump relay area and under my powermaster when i would try to start it up?? Also it had no fuel pressure?? new battery.I check the fuses, its ok, replace the relay, still nothing, replace new walbro pump, still nothing, and still no fuel pressure.Checked all connections. I prime pump with connector behind alt. I hear the pump click only. Did it with fuel pump hotwire connected. Hooked it up to turbolink also ... no codes. Even checked if my starter was good. turns out it still good. After all this still no fuel pressure, but no more clicking, and starter clicks when ever i try starting her up.

Need help please!!

First of all, welcome to the forum:)

now for the problem, one thing to check is to see if the Battery+ wire going to the starter is grounded to something... i can't remember exactly what it grounds to but i know this can be an issue with these cars. i think it might ground to the header, but im not sure. also check for loose or bad grounds, like on the back of the pass. cyl. head.

just a few things to get you started

And make sure your battery connections are clean and tight. Sounds like corrosion at the battery, or (I'm sure you've checked this) a dead/dieing battery.

Iv checked the grounds. they look good feel tight. New Optima battery(check voltage. its good). Clean battery connection. no corrosion. Some one told me to check fuseable links at the starter? How do I Check this, or test it. do i take down starter(heavy SOB)!

dont know about at the starter but there is a connector/fusible link right next to the battery that can also be a problem child. it is an orange wire i believe, and i guess the fuse either pops or the wire becomes bad due to age, vibration, etc. of the vehicle.

were you able to check the B+ wire i mentioned before?

The orange wire is the power to the ecm and is not a fusible link. A bad connection there would explain no fuel pump operation/pressure, but has nothing to do with the starter cranking.... I'm suspecting a battery/wire/connection issue.... or (less likely) as was mentioned, popped fusible link(s) in the harness that goes to the starter. You could ohm the fusible links, but that will require disconnecting them from the starter... (PITA). Proper volts at the battery doesn't necessarily mean it's capable of delivering any appreciable current.... I'd start there first....

ah, thanks for clearing that up...memory gets fuzzy when im at school, 700 miles away from the car:)

Thanks guys ill recheck connections again... also Ill try checking fusible links for ohm, do I do that with key on?
