Just so we are clear this is no AC vs BT

Today I spent over an hour on the phone with the "real Art Carr"

We have been friends for almost 20 years now.

He was a big promoter of the Non lock and still is, however he now sees , I think, there is a big market to be had with a lock up also with the parts and technology they are devolping every day.
Art and I are getting together here coming up and maybe one night I can get him to live chat in chat with us or maybe post something. I will let him speak for himself. We talked about several new markets that are very hot and VERY lucrative right now and you know what? They are not Buicks, and the markets are there. Hrmmm The Real Art Carr , PTS, Vince Janis, Lonnie Diers, Mike Kurtz, Don Wang, SE Turbo, ...... are we starting to see a pattern here?
Hrmmmmm......:D

And my point before about cruise rpm will all depend on stall. Now a 12" d5 at cruise will lower rpm by maybe 200 at cruise. However, givin the same stall speed and torque multiplication factors the non lock, 3500 stall converter has and give those same charecteristics to a lock up , when locked cruise rpm will drop more than 400 you can bet the farm. Cruise rpm drop is like any other. Depends on the stall of the converter in the first place. The numbers you were comparing were for a stock d5. Given the same AC converter with a lock to 1-1 it would be closer to 600-800 I bet.

When I was a kid, we walked to school in the snow, barefoot, backwards, in gale force winds, with no jacket, and so on and so on... ROFLMAO!

And Vic, I wouldn't try to talk you into anything. The customer is "ALWAYS" right, correct?

Hey Bruce,

No! The customer is hardly ever right:rolleyes: I always take professional advise into serious consideration! If I didn't respect your knowlege and ability, I wouldn't want one of your transmissions.:D

I'm just expressing my preference and sharing what worked for me in the past. I just have a thing against lockup converters. I absolutely HATE them:mad: I am going by the drivability of STOCK units. I never had the privilege or driving a car with a modified or custom built lockup. It's hard to spend close to a grand on something you don't know if you'll like or hate.

I said, I don't know if you'd be able to talk me into a lockup. I never said you shouldn't try:p

Heheheh

I just always rememeber my elders saying this. You know, we had 15 ft of snow on the ground and we walked 5 miles to school , barefoot with a limp.. LOLOL Rememeber that?

anyway, I hope to the Lord that those reading this thread take it as I am writing it. I have been giggling as we have volleyed. Not a ill intentioned word spoken. We are just discussing and having a little humor to boot. I want you all to know that I thought this thread a good one. Notice there are a couple different opinions. Is ONE the RIGHT one? Well of course not, but the fact that we can discuss this with a smile on our face and humor in our heart, is something to be acknowledged. Like I said good discussion and good feedback. tow man, maybe we could try something sometime as I "know" ( very huge pun) you need more to do. ! LOLOLOLOL

LU versus NL.

I personally talked to Art Carr a few times before making my decision as to which unit to get and he recomended i go with the NL unit, i have a 9" NL 3,500 stall on my car and it works wonders, the difference as mentioned before is 200rpm higher at cruise speeds, and lost of about 2 mpg, which i dont care, also Art made a good point, if your making some good power on ur car, your best choice is the NL unit, because with the LU unit there are clucthes bearing and other things that have to spin at great speed this, in term will make ur LU unit clutches life very short , i guess what i am trying to say is, if you drive your GN the way i drive mine ur better off with the NL unit cause it will last longer than the LU unit, just make sure you get a nice trans cooler and you will be a very happy customer.

i have both and like it either way. the non\lu does increase cruise rpm by about 200 versus my other car. i try to go a bit slower on the highway. gas mileage isnt bad at all. 20 mpg isnt bad considering the combo.

A stock long block TR will be faster with a lock up converter, period. No if's, ands or buts.

Art Carr was to do a test last spring to "prove" that a nonlock up converter was supposed to be faster. I guess the results were inconclusive.
