Hi All

Need help with a 97 Honda speedo

I would check for Honda website but I don't know any... and I don't care about them!!

anyways... I have a friend whose 97 Honda speedo doesn't work. I thought I would just need to oil the speedo cable and she would buy me a beer... but it's electronic.

Problem/symptom - When she starts up the car, the speedo automatically jumps to 25mph and stay there... and the tripdometer and odometer doesn't work either. Is there a sensor or module that I need to replace?

TIA... dave

Sounds like the VSS(vehicle speed sensor) VERY common for these to fail on the mid nineties Honda's. Im currently in a Honda shop and theres at least a couple of those a week.

If its no that, let me know, ill try to dig up some other clever ideas.....

Check out my thread about you:

On 8/19/04 you said you would send me my money. That was the last email even though I have tried to contact you via email and PM on this site since then.

I'm gona be posting on your posts until you resolve this issue with me.

It would be so simple for you to resolve this by sending me the louzy $41.50 I sent for the first module on ebay. Then I would send you back the two paper weights you sent me. At my cost no less.

Yea, it's common and most likely it's fried.
It's located on the tranny but I forget where.

87gninpa, Anthony...

would you know what this sensor looks like and the most likely location on the tranny.

Any idea of the cost!!!

thanks in advance... dave

Sensor is on the right side of the car, at the top of the trans. Should have a 3-wire connector. On a 97, the check engine light would also be on with a VSS code. If it's not, check the orange wire for a short/open going into the cluster. There is also a junction connector on the lower drivers side interior that can get kicked if the driver likes sticking their feet up under the dash.

Look, just get over it already!!!! You are disrupting everyones posts and its just not necessary. Its funny because i just sold about three modules on the board and noones had a problem whatsoever, seems it only you bro so deal with it. You now got two modules for 30 bucks, do what you wish with them, caus eim done with you.........so just stop interupting tech posts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats funny my Bro in law has a 85 Honda Civic and his speedo reads 120 MPH at about 40MPH is this the same problem as above. Is the VSS in the same place as above also?

NO, I DID NOT. I got one module that I can't use and the other does not work. You sold me a module that you thought was for an 86/87 gn and the other is fried.
This is what I got. Now you said you would take them back and send me my money. If you sent me the correct coil pack & module that worked I would not be posting. You intentionally are ignoring. What the hell is your problem. I want everyone to know what type of person you are. You are a damn crook in my book.

I am updating this thread to report that Shawn Wallinsky a.k.a. 87gninpa has refunded my money for the coil packs.

I thank him for doing the right thing. I would also like to thank everyone else on this forum that supported me.

Thanks,
Ernest
