Strange they came with a 7.5. Seems to me its basically a 442 with a Buick body. And for some reason The General felt that anemic 307 needed the 8.5 in that application. Not that I'm complaining...I have an 86 442, and I like the fact it has the G87 and G80 codes. Too bad my GN is an open rear.
it's more like a Monte SS with a Buick body and an Olds engine since it would have the 7.5 rear end.
i believe the "T" package came standard with the turbo 6 from 84-86, then they mad it a suspension option that could come with any engine in 87. maybe they had a whole bunch of tighter steering boxes, bigger sway bars, and stiffer springs laying around taking up space and they wanted to get rid of them after the 87 model run was done (which was also supposed to be the end of the G body run) so they made it a standalone option.. or maybe people were saying that they wanted a better handling car but didn't care about performance so they offered it without the expensive turbo 6 engine.
