That's what I assumed since it was right behind the turbo.. But as long as I can remember it's never had a hose connected to it? Does it play a main function in how these cars perform? Or is just like a check solenoid for the dash or something?
 
Depends on your setup. I don't use one but I have an external wastegate. If you have a stock set up with internal wastegate and a wastegate actuator then you need it. It's nothing more than a "switch" that allows air bled from the turbo to reach the actuator thereby moving the wastegate. The ECM controls it which varies the amount the wastegate moves.
