Alright so I had backhalfed my 87 regal. 32x14s clear no problem. Now a few of my buddies want me to do their car. They asked me though just for a minitub and frame notch coil overs and ladder bar. I asked what tire size and he said 12 inch rim 10.5 Radial. Anyone see any problem using a 12 inch rim in there?

Good question, I have been thinking about doing the frame notch / mini tub on a Malibu so I have taken some measurements and looked at a lot of what others have done.

With a 12" wide rim, I think you will have to relocate the lower control arm mounts towards the inside of the car. Pretty sure that even a 10" wide rim will be very close to the lower control arm unless the backspacing pushes the wheel/tire assembly out more than might be desirable.

Well Im not too conscerned about the lower control arm or upper control arms mounts becase im doing a laddber bar system on his car. I just have to measure the disance between the wheel opening to the frame and subtract how ever much im taking out of the frame.

Can you post some pic of your car i would love to see the tires under it, now that your right around the corner from me maybe i'll be next in line for some real tires thanks..

Well since I just signed up on here it wont lemme directly put any pictures up yet. so im gonna try to figure this out. keep in touch. ill show you whatever you need to help make your decision.

Here are a couple of pics of my set up. I cut the "c" channel trimmed them and rewelded. Straight on it looks stock .
The rear rims are 5.5 inch BS 10" rim . 325/50/15 or 28 X 10.5W tire can fit with GNX flares. Both of those tires are 13.2 , sidewall to sidewall .

You dont have to minitub these cars to hook...... Dave fiscus went 7's on a 325 drag radial.

11.3" will fit with 10"wheels with rolled fender and big notch

The guy doesnt want to modify the body with flares. He said he just wants the minitub and ladderbar setup. but Now that i know it will fit under there i should be good to go!

Spend a few $$ at Summit, and get the tire fitment gauge..About $70, AIRC.

Ok. Then the BS on the rims will change. And make sure when you measure the BS, that the rotor/drum is on. The thickness is different between drums and discs so the measurement will be different. Remind him that in some classes , wheel tubs are not allowed. Also remind him that the are almost in the 5's with a 10.5 tire . ;)

I notched the heck out of my frame and ran an 11" rim with 6" B/S. My car was lowered 2" and I ran a 325/50 with plenty of room to spare.
