I went from L/U to non L/U---changed the pump spool--removed the check ball but forgot to remove O-ring from end put shaft. Should I pull trans and do it or not. Thanks.

Lee, you dont need to remove the O-Ring, the L/U valve is staked closed so there is really no fluid exhausting through the shaft. It basically does nothing when you convert it to non L/U.

I'm going to go from non-LU to LU, can you send me the details to do this.
thanks

I was under the impression that the O ring has to be removed. Had a friend that left it on with a non lock and burnt his tranny up in short order.

Donnie, it was something else that burned up the trans, the O-ring is used to prevent fluid from leaking around the shaft when the clutch is applied so full pressure is applied (this O-ring is sometimes damaged when swapping converters and the converter will not lock) It really serves no purpose with a non lockup. On an ATI non l/u converter, there is nothing for it to even seal against. I cant speak for the others.
old installation instructions.

I'm glad to know that. I had always wondered what difference it would make leaving it on vs taking it off. This being the case, knowing my buddy, they probably didn't have enough fluid in the car

I would add though that my Transgo non lock valve instructions stated to leave the O ring off but didn't tell of what would happen if it were left on.

As far as I know there are 2 different N/L kits. Art Carr and Trans Go. I do believe most people are using the Trans Go now as it does not require you to remove the pump. Assuming you have the Trans GO. Remove the TCC solenoid--remove the snap ring behind the TCC solenoid--there is a 3 piece stackup in the bore --remove and install the stock lockup spool which includes 1 spool and 2 springs--reinstall TCC solenoid and the o-ring on the input shaft. I leave the check ball capusle out of the input shaft as I have heard it allows the convertor the lock quicker. Best of luck.

I dont see how it would matter if the o-ring was left on. If you never plan to run a lockup and have the trans out of the car the pilot on the input could be cut off.
