O-ring seals: Use 2?

I've seen on the board where it's been recommended to make sure the old o-ring seal is out of the tranny when changing filters, but have read on the instructions that came with the filter that some people use an extra o-ring on the new filter to help the seal? Will this help, or just cause sealing problems??

itll work fine but the later design multi lip seal is a better choice.
