Ok here's the deal. Put a fresh tranny in a few months ago. Tranny works wonderfully, and everything went back together great. However, after a few shifts, the shifter/cable is acting up.

Going from P down to any gear works fine...as long as the shifter is being pulled DOWN from the top. NOW...when you try to push the shifter UP or back towards P it acts like it isn't connected to anything. I have to put it in Park, or any gear that is up or towards Park with the column collar. Going back up with the shifter does NOTHING.

FYI - all gears work fine, and the tranny shifts great. It's obviously a bacle related problem.

Any ideas??

I can think of two possibilities:
  1. The u-shaped cable clip that holds the cable to the pan bracket has popped off.
  2. The cable housing has broken at the point where it attaches to the pan bracket.
[/list=1] Either way, a quick peek under the car should tell the story.

  1. Just went outside and had the girlfriend work the shifter while I watched under the car.

When going back into drive...all is fine. When she pushed it back up towards Park nothing happens down below...it's like the shifter wasn't connected. Everyting is connected properly as far as I can tell. Pushing the shifter back up and feeling the cable down below I can't even feel anything coming through the cable...vibrations, nothing. I'm stumped??? Before I just go off and buy a Hurst Quarter Stick for the car...does ANYONE have any ideas ;)
