Stage I 3.8 off-center shortblock.

I bought this a few years ago and it was sold to me as being "brand-new, freshly machined/assembled from Duttweiler." I stored it for awhile (in my office closet) and brought it out a few months ago. Not remembering EXACTLY what I had, I pulled it apart and had my machinist go through it and check all of the clearances to make sure the machine work was correct. I have way too many LS1 projects going right now so I'm selling my dream Buick motor...

This is what I have:

Off-Center Stage I 3.8 block
Decks drilled and tapped for 14-bolt heads
What looks to be a BMS 3.625" crank (dont know who ground it)
Carillo 6.5" H-beam rods
Custom CP 3.830" pistons with CP plasma-moly rings
All new Clevite 77 main, rod, and cam bearings
Billet Center main caps with the "6" lol
ARP studs in the center mains
Stock caps and bolts on the front/rear

The machine work is really nice, however all the mains came out to .0030," give or take .0001." The rods are at ~.0025." I imagine it was built for an aggressive application as most do not typically run quite that loose if i remember right. Wall clearance was specd exactly as per the piston info. I can measure the ring gaps as well. Think I have some bobweight cards as well.

I have a couple of oil pans (with returns), a new Dutt oiling system, a JW "wheel," and a few other misc. components I can dig up for this build. I think I have about everything but a balancer, but I will have to go through all of my stuff. I also intend to take some pics if someone gets seriously interested.

Motor is currently dissassembled, and I can sell it either way--I DO NOT WANT TO PART ANY OF IT OUT.

Im not sure what this stuff is going for these days, and I am obo on my prices.

Asking $4650 assembled or $4200 for it as is. I'm not on the forums often; I can be reached by calling 214-674-0141.

Thanks,

John

To bad you don't want to separate this.

Yeah, sorry man. The motor should stay together since its all machined and ready to go. As for the other stuff I have, I've accumulated it all for this project and its alot easier for me just to let it go with the motor for one lump sum.

Were you interested in something particular? I may have extras, I have two of alot of stuff.

Duttweilers oil system

How much do you want for
duttweilers oil system? What does it come with?

I don't know if you read the thread, but I'd like to try and sell it with the motor first. I'm getting alot of bites on everything as a package. But, if for some reason that doesn't work out, I'll part.

Thanks,

John

John,

Did you buy this motor from Rick Percy in CA?

Tons of interest but no one's come up with the money yet, TTT. I should have pics up soon for those who requested them.

They are significantly dished-like stock. I can have them cc'd if you want, but I figure they are the typical 8.5:1 with a stock size chamber.

Not a bad good deal.

More details though. Is the crank std/std? Do the flywheel and balancer come with it? Is it internally balanced? Can it use the stock oiling system? Is the pickup bolt location still there? Was the delivery passage compromised with the crank? What leads you to the conclusion that it is a 3.625 stroke?

Are the center mains 4 bolt or 2?

Roger

I'm fairly certain the crank is a nitraded Moldex, cut 3.625 and is turned 10/10, I was contacted by the gentleman who sold the crank to the man I purchased the motor from and that was again confirmed. The pick-up boss is there, but I'm not sure if the stock pick-up tube can clear the counter, hence I've included a Dutt system. Center mains are 2-bolt w/ billet caps.

The motor is internally zero balanced, I have a JW wheel that I have supplied (not balanced with the assembly). However, I imagine it is zero balanced from JW. I do not have a balancer, any good balancer for this internal balance application should work fine. Im sure it wouldn't be a bad idea to re-check balance once you have a balancer and the wheel just for safe measure.

Hope this helps. Once again, I know I need to get pics up. I'd like to get some hosted so that I can just put them in the thread. I had a customer put his car into a wall at the track this weekend and that has consumed some time.

Sorry for the low-quality of these camera phone pics...At least they give you an idea.

Also forgot to mention I had to have the little end of 4 rods honed ever so slightly because the pins were a bit too tight.

Tried to get pics of the number on the crank, but they didn't come out. It is just the regular 25500008 forging though.
