i changed my oil today and took it out for a spin,on the way home one of the hoses that attach to the throttle body came off, when i went to reattach it i noticed that there was a flim of oil all over the hose.does anyone know what would cause this?hopefully it isn't anything serious:confused:

Have you got a valve cover breather on the passenger side? If not the turbo could be pulling oil from there and filling your intercooler. You might want to look into one of the breather bypass kits the vendors sale if you haven't already. This will prevent this kind of problem in most cases.

oil in intercooler?

yes it does have a small after market filter on the passangers side valve cover

PCV valve is alway a possibility in this area. Do a search. There was a real lengthy discussion on this not too long ago.

Take off the up pipe.Does it look like oil going through the intercooler and up pipe into the throttle body?If so,probably a turbo seal.:(

If it's going through the up-pipe to the throttle body it's turbo. If it's coming from the hose that goes to the PCV then it's getting sucked up through there (that's where mine is coming from). Picking it up from the valley pan apparently. Thinking of replacing this.

it does appear that oil is coming up through the up pipe going into the throttle body, what's involved in replacing the turbo seal if that's the promblem?

You're probably looking at getting a new turbo or maybe a rebuild.

before you spend the cash and time ripping apart your turbo clean your intercooler very good and put in a brass pvc valve in if you havent done so all ready and clean the pipes real well then run the car. and check again. some times old oil can sit in the intercooler for a while before it gets blown back up into the engine. If that little breather doohickey that goes from the enging valve cover to the turbo was in the car for a while and was removed oil can still stay in the intercooler and cause it to apper as if your turbo is leaking and cause your pipes to pop off when your driving. I had this problem before and i thought it was the turbo cause i had a good pvc valve and a breather on the valve covers and I replaced it. I took apart the turbo and found that it wasnt leaking. it was just a dirty intercooler. alsow oil going through your engine will lower the octain and possably cause detnaton somthing you might want to keep in mind

thanks for the info,i'll get a new pcv valve and clean out the intercooler & hoses real good, hopefully it's not the turbo, the previous owner just put one on about 2 1/2 years ago!

If you're lucky maybe the previous owner didn't clean out the intercooler when he changed the turbo and it's just old oil that's been there for a while.Just in case when you take the intercooler out to clean it look into the turbo compressor where the small intercooler hose goes.Look to see if oil is seeping out of the compressor into the intercooler.
