I could be wrong, but I think the oil cooler adapter is required if you go with the BIGGIE adapter.
What I did, which is a somewhat expensive route. I got a billet spin on filter from Canton Racing. It takes replaceable elements, which are easily inspected at oil changes. Housing is around $95.00, and replacement elements are $12.00

About 8 miles from my house. I know the owner but haven't talked to him in years. Used to hang out at one of his early shops when a friend was a welder for him. He is big time now. Which filter did you end up using Scott??

It's the P/N 452. Its the larger, higher flowing one. I doubt it would fit unless you removed the oil cooler adapter.

If you want a large filter with no modification, use a Purolator 30001. It's a large oil filter, larger than the biggie allows. Filter threads are not metric but screws on tightly and have had no problems using them a couple years for at least 25 oil changes.

Your right Scott, the "Biggie" will not work w/o the oil cooler adapter in place.
