I've filled up the radiator and was checking for leaks with the car running. I went to drain the radiator and water and oil came out. At first I thought there was a lot of crud in it but I've done it a couple more times and the same thing.I checked my oil and no milky like a blown headgasket.

I was wondering if its happened to anyone else? Thinking maybe the oil side is leaking into the water side???

If you're still running the 21 year old OE radiator with the internal oil cooler, the oil cooler is leaking into the radiator. I went through this a while back, and installed a new F-Body radiator with external oil and tranny coolers.

Wonder if your radiator is cracked and leaking oil into the coolant. I have a nice new one if you need one :D.

You could have a blown HG even if you do not have any coolant in the crank case. The HG could be blowing oil into a water passage. But I would hope for a bad oil cooler.

The Fbody radiator is inexpensive aluminum and comes with a lifetime warranty from autozone or advance.

I bought hard line, and made lines to keep the in tank tranny cooler functional. Not very hard of a project.
Next project I am working on is an oil cooler.

I don't get it. Putting something non stock together maybe saved you $100? You buy the fbody radiator for what $100-$140 including tax, buy and make your hard lines, then you need to buy an oil cooler, make the lines again etc. Throw labor into it, etc. And you end up with a rare car that is being pieced together. Just doesn't seem worthwhile to me. It's great you can do things like that but these aren't 5.0 mustangs that are a dime a dozen

My 2 cents.

A quality custom built alum. radiator will run $450 and up. I put in a F-body rad. and just coaxed the trans lines to fit. No big deal and no kinks. An external oil cooler would be nice but not a necessity IMO for a weekend warrior.

4EyedTurd, still hope all you have is leaking oil cooler core.

Depends on how you look at it. If you plan on keeping the car OEM with factory trans/oil coolers, then it is cheaper to go with a stock OEM radiator for about 350.00.

If you mod your car and plan on running external trans/oil coolers then the F-body is way cheaper than the 450.00-700.00 price tag for other performance radiators.

I went with the F-body rad, with an external trans. cooler, I was able to heat and bend the stock lines and added some extensions to the trans cooler. All of this for about 190.00 (not a bad deal in my mind) I run the RJC FMIC, and to be honest with you, I don't think a $450+ rad would cool much better than what I have. I run about 168 in the summer:eek:.

Its all in how you look at it.

Well, I'm hoping thats all it is. Heck I guess thats why I got the radiator so cheap. I've got the oil cooler hooked up to the radiator and am using an external trans cooler and after looking up the price for a factory radiator 366 at Advanced Auto. I'm going to research the Fbody swap.

edit: after reading some of Pacemakers posts and since he's in Texas also I'll see what she does without the oil cooler first

Not all! ALUMINUM RADIATOR

I have the same problem. Most likely a leaking factory oil cooler. Previous owner installed a F-Body radiator but didnt flush the system. I have dual external coolers for oil and trans. Not running the oil cooler right now, gonna have new -10AN lines made up. Gotta run to my local hydraulics store and get some fittings. Planning on running a biggie oil filter adapter and a PF-24 as well. Should be 1/2" NPT for the oil cooler adapter. I believe my cooler is the same, but Im not sure. I'll post pics as soon as Im done the project.

I removed my external oil cooler when I had the engine apart to do the timing chain. The high pressure rubber hoses were a little long, and hung a little low for my liking. I dont want to think about what would've happened if I had snagged one on something... I have noticed lower oil pressure, but oil thins out when its gets warm; and I run Mobil-1 10w30 sythetic. Didnt make any sense, the trans cooler lines are all nicely bent 5/16ths hard line, and the car had these ugly rubber ones for the oil cooler. Someone got cheap and skimped out...

My .02.

I did not re-use my oil cooler after I lost a bearing. I did not notice any significant rise in oil temp. Temp sender in the pan.

I've noticed a lot of people say it is required, but no temp data to back it up.

I would install one before running the Silver State Challenge.

I am never easy on the car.
