I posted this in the Before Black section but it has only had a few views and no replies. I was hoping to get a little more help here, so hope no one minds.

N/A questions/ tuning help?
I picked up an 85 Cutl*** with a 3.8. It seems to not have the power (can I call it that? that it should. It does have the gauge package so I will tell you what some of the readings are.

It starts out with around 30psi while idling and after, but the longer it runs the lower it gets especially after driving where it drops to 5 or less at idle. If you bring the RPMs up around 1100 the oil pressure comes back up but only to about 15-20 psi. Also when idling it is fine but if you bring the idle up to about 1500 rpm there is a faint sound almost like a ticking. It sounds like it may be coming from the# 1 cylinder. I know what a rod knock sounds like and this isn't or at least isn't yet. The engine runs smooth other than the light noise and even gets up though not as fast as it should but the oil pressure bothers me. I am thinking it's the bearings or maybe a bad oil pump? What do you guys think?
Until I noticed the oil pressure I thought maybe the timing was off.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the help,
Jason

BTW: is it just my computer or is it the board, I noticed that I have asterics where the rest of the word "Cutl***" is.

The board has some filters that keep it PG. Will check into that as I have seen it only recently.

As to your oil pressure problem, a good guess would be a bad rod or main bearing. One test is to disconnect a plug wire one at a time to see if you can isolate the noise. if it goes away on a particular cylinder, probably that rod bearing. Also, good idea to check fore-and-aft movement in the crank due to worn thrust bearing.

I apologize for the comment it was not directed at any one at all just a broad statement. Operating on only 3 hrs sleep today and was a little annoyed to be sensored when the word was a car model. Just seems the filters are a little TOO sensitive as I noticed it in other posts after mine. I have never posted anything like that before and I will delete the post.

As far as the oil pressure, I was thinking the same thing. I bought the car to put my good running 3.8 in my current Cutl*** into when I do the LC2 swap, so no big loss. I was actually surprised it ran, let alone ran decent, aside from the oil psi.

Thanks again and I apologize for the remarks, but can we please fix the filters? It's a little annoying having your words edited/sensored because they contain the same letters as curse words.

Thanks

Don't delete the post, will edit mine, thanks for understanding and agree it IS annoying.
