$165 gets you 55 gallons of methonal here in IL. $3.00 per gallon. The dowside is you have to buy a barrel. I may use 10 gallons a season. My 2 cents. Brad

Just arguing to argue. You know, at some point the refills are going to surpass the cost of a StageII build. :)

I wave at the guy at the "race gas shack" on the way into the drags .. sometimes we go threw 3 or so gallons per week when we are racing .. otherwise a gallon or 2 .. just depends how many "lesson's" ya have to give people  :p

With methanol costing about the same as premium, the refill argument goes out the window...

soooo??? her car is ready to rock and roll at any time  your not using that much .. hell last week we put on over 600 miles and went threw "maybe" a gallon ..
ok ok ok intercoolers are better .. happy now :p now go run 25+#s of boost with pump gas with just your intercooler  Please post pics of the carnage
I guess this is why I don't usually post in the HA section .. have fun guys

Defensive much? You're so thick headed you don't even realize when someone agrees with you. That tends to happen when you come to a forum looking for a fight.

I'll spell it out for the mentally challenged....

With methanol being the same price as premium gas, it's not going to cost you anything above and beyond regular gasoline. Therefore alky injection is only an initial cost and the refills don't count as extra money.

I ran this statement past my 12 year old niece before I posted it and she understood so hopefully you can too.

nope... I have read a gazillion times most HA guys DON'T want to run an intercooler .. Alky has worked great on our small intercooled car.. I know it worked great on a car without an intercooler so back to the original post .. oh.. have fun if ya ever race your car :p

i was hoping we could to stay away from the "what if" stuff like "what if your alky gets low?". there was no shortage of blown headgaskets with these cars long before these alky kits came along. again, we can "what if" ourselves to death with any turbobuick with all the risk factors that go into running more boost.

What does that have to do with this?

Time to freshen up on your reading comprehension skills.

Well i am going to install an Alkycontrol kit on my dads 85 this weekend. It already has ported heads, an unknown cam from way back when, 2700 stall, retrofitted TA49, 50 lb injectors and all the normal fuel mods, ATR headers/2.5" DP, 2.5" exhaust and gutted cat, 86/87 ecm/module and a TT chip. If I don't run into any big tuning issues, i will try and get it to the track by the end of the month.(need to find the time to replace the carpet, it sat for 2 years and a mouse died inside....blahhhhh) It will be hot but at 22-23 psi I don't see why it can't trap 107-110.(hopefully 111-112 in the cooler months) The ET... well its a peg leg so ill be happy with a low 13 lol.

Im curious if anybody has run a similar setup with one of the normal spearco setups minus the alky and what were the results? I know there are quite a few kits out there but I never see anybody post any results.

I had too many problems to really count my spearco setup. Low boost with a ported intake, port matched heads, bigger turbo, headers and downpipe it went the 12.9@110mph in my sig. I had a plugged convertor so who knows what it would've run. Had it tuned for 24psi on race gas the day before but boost would spike and then continually fall off. So 12.9@110mph is a worst case scenario for the spearco and similar mods.

nah... tired :p why don't ya get your car running and SHOW us how its done .. obviously you know everything  ok back to the original post .. ahhhh the net

The only 11 second ones are doing it with alky.
Not true I don't run alky, just 110 race fuel.

I have however done a lot of research and lots of tuning and for the record my car is running and has been for the past 7 years. We have tried several set ups and this is what works on my particular set up and combo.

With the subject matter at hand, the best bang for the buck if you want to continue to run 93 octane is alky kit hands down.

You were one of the ones I thought was using alky. I guess I should've researched more.

Ever tried it?

Hey guys.

I just saw a car on Friday at a giant MAGNA (Mid-Atlantic Grand National Association) meet, and I saw a hotair with alcohol injection. I must admit, it seems a bit more reasonable now.....

Still want to do the intercooler. But alky doesn't seem so bad.

After Hubbies conversation with Razor we are thinking about trying one of his kits on my set up. Remember I have the old SMC (it has been upgraded a couple times)alky kit but hubby was very impressed with what Razor was saying about his system. I still think for the $$ this is the way to go to get more out of a hot air set up. I'll keep you posted on what we find. I know Razor is going to be busy the next couple of weeks getting married and all, so it might be August before we can get the kit on the car.

Yes we have but we aren't seeing the cooling effect we want, but like the previous post we are looking at Razor's kit and will be trying this most likely in the near future. Anything that can cool the charge is going to net the best results. I have however ran all my personal best without alcohol and without an issue of knock. However I do run straight 110 at all times. I know that's not realistic for some but with a wide band I don't have to worry about losing my oxygen sensor. (denso do hold up to 110 for a very long time)We have it readily available within 10 miles from home, so it's just what we run.

Alky Control kit; That will be your 10 sec slip!

Wouldn't that be cool? Like I said hubby was very impressed with the conversation. He called because it would appear our new side job is pulling and fixing GN motors, lol. Anyways the customer wants a razor kit so he can run 93 octane and not worry about detonation. Karl wanted to find out what was involved in the install and of course the conversation went to my hot air set up. Julio is top notch in my book, he not only gave all the specs but was very excited about working with us and very helpful. I have to admit our Buick community has some of the best vendors.
