Neil,
I build trannies on the side.

To give you an idea of how I handle a warrantee issue...

traded a "built" 700R4 and some rear disc brake parts to a guy in WA state for a '62 Nova body.
I had my dealership builder build the 700 because I didn't have time, and figured since he does them EVERDAY he would do a better job than me.

He did a SHODDY job, didn;t put in the parts I asked for, etc..

I dropped trans off in WA (from TX) last Christmas and just a moth ago or so I got a call it wasn't working.
No 2nd , no 4th.
Tells me a 2-4 band, I ask how TV cable is setup.
I was VERY specific with the guy as to how important it was to setup the TV cable.
It was going into a '63 Nova with a supercharged 355.

The cable was not even tight at WOT according to his mechanic.

I tell the customer,
Trans would not have burnt up if you had properly setup TV cable, but have the TV cable setup properly, then try it, hopefully it ain't smoked.
Told him to call me when it was setup right.

Didn't hear back for a couple of weeks.
He emailed me and said the trans shop pulled it apart to check it, it had rust in the VB and on the sun gear shell.
WTF?

OK,
I had him email me a couple of pics to make sure it wasn't just surface rust from sitting for 6 months.
Nope,
OBVIOUS my builder here had dropped me in the grease and I gave the guy a bad tranny.
So I called him,
told him to stop where he was and I would build him one and ship it to him, and pay for the converter cleaning and a reasonable diagnosis fee from the shop.

He wanted to have the local shop build it for him, I said no problem, better for you, becuase of warrantee, better for me because I don't have to get a core, time to build, etc..

But I told him I was limited to the expense it would cost me to buy a core, build it, ship it and the cleaning and diagnostics.
Basically I sent him a $800 cashiers check to offset his expenses.

He was happy with that.

He spent too much on his parts (Raptor kit) and I offered to get him the parts for almost half what he spent.... but he had already ordered them and was in a hurry.

Anyway,
I fixed him up.

So in my opinion that is more than most builders would warranty.

If I were to go buy a transmission from Vendor X, it was bad, and deposited clutch material in the cooler lines and converter, uness vendor X supplied the converter and installed the trans, normally they wouldn't be liable for R&R charges, convertor costs, and cooling system flush.
They would only be liable for the part as supplied, which would mean you R&R the trans, take it to them, fix your own converter, and flush your own lines.
They fix the trans, and you get to reinstall it.....

I hope you get this solved but if you don't,
I'm in North TX and bring it to me on a weekend and we'll see if we can fix you up.
You clean parts, I'll teardown and reassemble, and see if we can figure out what isn't right with a little help from Bruce, Chris others...

Jakeshoe, Thanks for the reply.

I cleaned the lines, installed a new cooler, and took every possibly precaution. I dont expect Vendor X to be liable for my converter or anything else but the transmission itself. However, the fact that he stated that "it must have the wrong valve body" tells me something was wrong from the beginning. I should have just sent it back right then and there. However, I have this terrible habit of having faith in people and allowed him to send parts for ME to install. The work performed by me and my buddies was worth who knows what to a shop in labor. But that doesnt bother me. I dont expect to get that back, or compensation for a possibly ruined converter because of the trans being wrong from the beginning. I just want it to be checked out. However, lets say they did take it back, they could just send it back and say its fine. I hope nobody would do that, but Ive seen worse things happen. Im going to drive the car tomorrow for the first time since Labor Day Weekend, we will see how it goes............
