Well I guess this is what I get for trying to save $200 bucks. I went to the paint store a while back to get the materials for the car to be painted. It had been painted before with PPG DBC black(2700 I think). Well the DBC is $300 a gallon but the OMNI was $100/ gallon. The paint salesman checked to see if there was any other colors in the paint besides Black. NO. Just Black in either one. Well the car is done now and the d@mn paint has a brown tint to it in certain light. SHame on me for being a cheap skate. I am so disgusted with it because the car has been apart for a long time and I could see the light at the end of the tunnel. F#@K it. I am going to continue putting it together and enjoy driving the pi$$ out of it matching paint or not!!:mad:Maybe someone will hit the car and I can get the insurance company to paint it again! The next car is getting painted white!

Sorry to hear about your paint issues.

I think the paint store is the one that messed up though. GM has many blacks through the years, and some of them have a brown to it. The SS Omni paint should be MTK9300.

When I got my car the fender was repainted and it was that black that had brown in it. So i redid the fender using PPG SS DCC9300. It is black, not one spec of brown in.

Don't blame the paint.....not entirely. Hmmmm. Let me throw this at you. What was the color of your sealer? I've noticed that same brownish hue on the black parts that I used gray or tan sealer on. But you only notice it under extreme lighting conditions like street lights and flouro lights when there is no daylight. It's not that big of an issue with me since nobody notices except me. Lets put this way. The compliments of the paint job out weigh the fact that it looks brownish under the street lights. Some day I'll use black sealer to see if that solves anything.

X2 on the sealer.....Also the clear coat will make a big difference in the tone of the black.

I think I found out what happened. Its definately not the clear. I used PPG 2021 clear. I think it was the sealer and the fact that the base coat had to be sanded more on the passenger side than the driver side.(its more brown on the passenger side) The Omni paint requires clearing WITHIN 24 hours also. I honestly think that between having a gray sealer, Sanding the base, and not having it cleared within the window all contirbuted to this. I had some small pieces that I painted following the correct windows of time and going heavy on the base that are really black. My friend painted the main body of the car and I have a feeling that not all of the rules where followed. Oh well, At least I can drive it again.

Omni doesnt suck, just their black

I've used lots of Omni for my work @ home, it's cheaper for a reason. Some omni colors like fords YZ White you could panel paint w/ Omni, others are not even close.

The Black Sucks, I used that on my truck and had to repaint it, becuase it also looked brown compared to the rest.

Spend more and get the DBC line of basecoat, that black is black. There are 2 different blacks on the mixing bank, Jet black and 1683 I believe, there is a difference, Black is not just Black.

Most of the time if your blending, it works fine, I use their clear think it's like 261 or somthing, love it, lays out nice, and very durable. Everyone says it buffs hard, well that means it' s a durable clear unlike the Nason clear that everyone likes becuase it buffs great, it's soft as **** though..

Like I said, if it's somthing nice get either Onni Plus basecoat, or DBC..
