Ever since I heard about it years ago I've been wanting to participate in the Silver State Classic in Nevada. That's the 90 mile race against the clock event they do on highway 318 in the middle of the desert. I can probably do it next year, but it's a haul and a half from the east coast. I heard rumors that there was a similar type of event held in Utah (still too far) and Texas. Texas is looking like a less miserable road trip, but I haven't been able to locate any info about the event.

Anyone out there aware of the Texas version of this race?

I've read about the Silver State Classic a few times over the years. That would be a wild ride. Good luck if ya go to any of them.

The Silver State Classic is known to the locals as 'Ely to 'Vegas'. I lived in Ely for a couple of years and this was always the coolest thing going on. The route that you you race is a trek that I pleasure drive whenever able--it's beautiful. I might also mention that there are some real benefits to the Ely race that most might not think of. In addition to having a great car show before the event, the whole town just goes nuts for all the wild cars that roll into town.......and here's the best part: Ely is a lawless little town a 4-hour drive from anything, i.e. 24 hour bars, legal brothels, about 2 cops.....get the picture? With all that having been explained, I'm sure you'll trust me when I tell you that Aultman Street (Main St.) turns into a veritable dragstrip for two or three days. I'm sure you'll be hard pressed to find anybody else who's actually lived in Ely, Nevada- so take my word for it. It's freakin' awesome!!

.........Oh yeah, and you can do 145 mph all the way to your vacation in Vegas! :D

DECEPTN,

You moved from Ely, NV to Stanley, NM? What are you trying to do, set a record for living in the most middle-of-nowhere places on earth?

I used to live in Albuquerque and was a Sales Rep for New Mexico. Traveled all over the state and still didn't make it into Stanley. Anything going on out there?

Thanks for the background info on the Ely race. That extra 800 miles from the east coast is probably going to do it in for me, but it looks like I'd rather be in Nevada than TX.:)

I've also lived in Boulder Junction, WI.,Calais, ME., Port Angeles, WA......the list goes on and on. I kinda love dead little towns. It's good to hear you were once a local out this way! Stanley ain't so bad when you consider how cheap land is out here! BTW, thanks for starting this thread, untill today I was unaware of any ORR's in Texas. Heck, that's right next door. I'm looking into that now.
