What are your guys opinions on 3.73 rearends. I just got a 8.5'' w/a 3.73 posi for free. I'm debating on putting it in my 87T. The car will have a T-400 w/ 3500stall and a turbo in the 60's. Should I just leave the 3.42 in or put the 3.73. My friend said to just put a taller tire but I figured I'd ask for more opinions.

thanks

The 3.73s are just going to complicate things. I rund a TH400 with stock 3.42s and its not very street friendly. At the track it will be even more of a problem. My car with a 11% slip ratio goes through the traps at 6000rpm, imagine what it would do with 3.42s:(

The only guys who use 3.73 or higher gears are the ones running really tall tires (28" and larger) and guys that have engines that rev past the factory shift points. Buzzing these motors doesnt do anything excepy break expensive stuff.

Even with a 28 inch tire 3.73's are not needed and just make the car rev higher.Especially with a non lockup convertor and no overdrive.

Even with 3.42 ratio and a turbo 400 I would use the 28-29 inch tire to keep the revs down to what these cars like.
