Yep, I've done that too. Pretty good emergency brake, if all else fails. Fortunately there wasn't anybody behind me when I did it (accidentally) and I came out of first REAL fast.
I was told by one transmission person that the StageRight will slow you down by 2 tenths in the quarter (reason unknown), but he's the only person that ever told me that. Before the StageRight I couldn't get my 60 foot times below 2 seconds--actually about 2.2. Now I can. Still not much better (1.8s), because the tires will light up at about 30 feet out (suspension issues I guess), but a MUCH harder launch, and my quickest run ever. Not really quick yet, but still, my quickest. I went from 12.5s to 12.3s with no other mods. So if there was a .2 loss, then it made up for it in time gained with the harder launch.

What kind of torque converter....

What power level are you at? Combo?

In response to that, I went through a Mike Kurtz modified D5, which lasted for quite a while, then when I got it rebuilt here in Missouri, the rebuilder told me he put a Precision TC in it. Great! Only it burned it up pretty fast (one full throttle run with the TC locked). So, under warranty, he put another "Precision" in it. That one burned up too, same way. This time I asked about it and he told me it was from Precision Torque Convertors of Ohio, and built to stock specs. Great. He didn't know about any other Precision company... so he said. Anyway, I bought a real Precision 5-plate lock-up converter and have had no further problems with the TC.
Horsepower levels before current mods (TE-44, RJC powerplate, THDP, some other stuff) were 375rwp, 440 flywheel hp. Not real high compared to most TR/GNs running around, from what I've read, but enough to chew up stock or almost stock TCs.

I have never seen a stage right slow anyone down. Its a good buy for the buck I install them myself. I am working on a electric brake that will go under the stock pan. If testing works out I will have an electric brake in the price range of a stage right.

The back wheels will lock up solid, and is probably not a good thing for the tranny and the car behind you!

Scott and I had this happen years ago when they first came out. Scott lost track of what gear he was in and downshifted to what he thought was 2nd

Wow!:) If everything pans out, what is the time frame for them coming out?

Your daughter is very wise. Take after her mother?

I've used a stage right for many years. As a matter of fact I got it at Buicks at Bristol...so however many years ago that is.

No problems with the rear end or tranny with many 60's in the 1.4's, and 2 years of running low 10's. The only problem I have had was to actually twist the splines in the slip joint in the driveshaft. Twice. Maybe one of these days I'll get a better one than the one that Napa sells over the counter.

I can't ever see going back to foot braking.

Bump! DISCALIMER!!! OLD THREAD

Any updates Lonnie?

The thing I like is

that the stage right style doesn't destroy a perfectly good BRF {or any other perfromance type valve body} valve body. If you get tired of it, you can back it out and the only thing it cost {besides the stage right price} is a $24 spacer plate.

Excellent points worth considering.
